This team, the Swimpro Aquatics “Gators”, has been creating outstanding and confident swimmers since 1995.  SPA is part of the Metro West Swim League, which many includes other teams in the metro west area.  In the summer, the team competes in the MSSL (Minuteman Summer Swim League) through the Groton Country Club.

The “Gators” is a recreational swim team, with a focus on sportsmanship, achieving personal best performance, stroke technique, and endurance.  It is the goal of SPA not only to provide young athletes with the physical and mental tools they will need to be successful in the sport of swimming, but also to endow them with a confidence and strength of character that will prove valuable in all walks of life.  We aim to provide swimmers with a practice environment within which they learn integrity, determination, self-discipline, and - most importantly – have fun!  Swimming is an activity that can be enjoyed at any age, and we strive to foster each athlete’s love and passion for the sport.

Drop off and Pick-up:

If you wouldn’t go out to dinner without getting a sitter, your child is too young to be dropped off at practice. If your child is old enough to be dropped off, please tell a member of the coaching staff when you do so. EVERY child MUST have parent contact information in their swim bags.

We will be checking kids in and out; please do not wait for your child in the parking lot. WE WILL NOT LET THEM LEAVE THE BUILDING WITHOUT HANDING THEM OFF TO AN ADULT. We will not let young children go to the parking lot alone, in the pitch dark!

Practice Group Descriptions:

PLEASE respect the guidelines/requirements for levels!!!.... We establish these guidelines for a reason.... the intensity and workload of each practice is adjusted to level accordingly.... intermediate swimmers will not be able to handle an advanced practice, nor a beginner the intermediate practice... We want swimmers to practice amongst their peers of approximately equal level so they develop confidence as well as appropriate physical strength and skill.

There are specific guidelines to each level of practice:

Beginner swimmers: little or no experience on a swim team, needs to learn proper strokes, but can swim one length of the pool unassisted. Practices include dry-land training.

Intermediate swimmers: can swim 200 yards without stopping, have a basic understanding of at least 3 of the 4 competitive strokes, and have some prior swim team experience. Practices include dry-land training.

Advanced swimmers: Can swim 300 yards without stopping, has a solid conceptual grasp of all 4 strokes, the IM, and knows basic starts and turns. Practices include dry-land training.

Jr. Elite swimmers: Can swim 500 yards without stopping, can execute ALL four strokes legally and has a solid mastery of all starts & turns. Practices include dry-land training. **ONLY ATHLETES PRE-APPROVED BY THE COACHING STAFF MAY ATTEND Jr. ELITE WORKOUTS***

Elite Squad: For the highest level of our athletes. These workouts will be very challenging, both technically and physically, and are geared exclusively for those athletes who have made the decision to commit to the pursuit of swimming as a top priority. Swimmers in this category should have short term goals which include attendance at all AAU meets, and achievement of one or more National time standards, and long-term goals such as attendance at the 2016 AAU Nationals, eventual acceptance into Division I or II NCAA swimming, etc. There will be interval training time standards for those that wish to swim with the ELITE group.  **ONLY ATHLETES PRE-APPROVED BY THE COACHING STAFF MAY ATTEND ELITE WORKOUTS***

Practice Schedule:

Practices are offered Monday – Friday. Most kids attend two or three workouts per week; there is no minimum requirement, EXCEPT for the ELITE group, which is expected to attend all practices.

NO PRACTICE IF SCHOOL IS CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WEATHER. An email will be sent to the team roster if practice is canceled. Additional no practice days will be posted on the team calendar.
