Frequently Asked Questions

When does the team practice?

The team swims Monday through Friday from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the HCSD Aquatic Center located at Merton Williams Middle School.  How many nights per week a swimmer trains is an individual swimmer’s personal decision, however, more time spent in practice means better results at swim meets.  New swimmers typically attend practice at least 3 nights per week.

How do I join?

The best way to join the team is during our yearly swim trial.  The swim trial is conducted during our open enrollment period in September of each year.  The swim trial allows potential new members to practice with the club before committing to joining the team.  Arrangements can be made to join the team at other times during the year.  We ask that you contact our staff ahead of time through the "Please Contact Me" button so that we can answer any questions and arrange to meet you to discuss the club.   Electronic registration will be performed during the open enrollment period.  Please coordinate with our staff if you would like to register outside of this period.

Where Do My Dues/Fees Go?

Your annual dues and fees go toward paying for the coaching staff, building fees, league fees, USA swimming fees, insurance, mailings, and miscellaneous expenses.

What additional expenses can I expect?

There are entry fees associated with some of the swim meets that HAST swimmers participate in.  Swim suits, caps, and goggles are other items swimmers need to purchase.

What Can I Do As a Parent?

Get involved! Our program depends on parent volunteers. We cannot operate without them.  As a parent, you are expected to volunteer your time to help out our team. Your involvement can be anything from timing at meets to being a USA official. Most positions do not take more than a couple of hours a month. The benefits to our youth are priceless! A side benefit is you too will have fun.

How old does my child have to be to join ?

Swimmers should be between 6 and 18 years of age.  Swimmers compete in meets by their age group which ensures they are matched against similar age swimmers.

How much previous swimming experience is required ?

No previous experience in competitive swimming is required.  Swimmers should be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted.  If in doubt an evaluation can be scheduled with one of our coaches to determine if your child is ready for competitive swimming.
