Swimming Groups

Willamalane Swim Club Pre-Team swimming group offers young swimmers a way to explore competitive swimming. Swimmers should have completed the Willamalane Park swim lessons or be of comparable skill. They should be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with successful side breathing. PreTeam is only offered on a month to month plan and open from October to August.

Once a swimmer reaches the level to be moved into the Novice swimming group, the Coaches will refer the parents to the Registrar for more information about the transition to the competitive team groups.

Willamalane Swim Club team swimmers are organized into groups corresponding to a combination of age and skill-level: Novice, Age-Group, Seniors, Returning College and Master Swimmers.

Except for the Returning College & Masters group, swimmers are initially placed in groups primarily based on skill level. For example, an older child who is new to the sport is likely to be placed in the Novice group initially; however, even though the majority of the swimmers in this group will be much younger.

Volunteer and Fundraising Commitments

WSC is a non-profit team operated entirely by the efforts of parents. Family participation and income from fundraising and sponsorships are necessary for the team to continue providing the best experience and training for our swimmers. Therefore, all families are expected to assist with team duties in the form of volunteer hours, and fundraising activities.

Volunteering and fundraising are separate commitments. Excess fundraising cannot be applied to volunteer hours nor can excess volunteer hours be applied to fundraising. You can keep track of your progress toward meeting your commitment on WSCs Team Unify website (after you log-in, see My invoice/payment under My account).

Fundraising Commitment

To help keeps our Willamalane Swim Club dues low and affordable we require that each family help fundraise throughout the swim year.

The minimum amount of fundraising:

Novice, Age Group, Senior Swimmers: $200.00 swimmer/$400 family*

Pre-Team, Masters, Returning College Swimmers: 0.00

*Families with multiple swimmers will not be required to raise more than $400.00 regardless of the number of swimmers. Families that do not fulfill their commitment by the end of the swim season will be billed for the amount not satisfied in August.

Volunteer Commitment

Because the club and swim meets are run entirely by volunteers, all families are required to assist the team by contributing time.

The minimum number of volunteer hours:

Novice, Age Group, and Senior Swimmers: 30 hours

Pre-Team, Masters, Returning College Swimmers: 0 hours

The commitment for families with more than one swimmer is based on the highest-level swimmer only. For instance, a family with an age-group swimmer and a master swimmer would have a 30-hour total time commitment. Any volunteer hours unfulfilled at the end of the season will be billed to the family at $20 per hour in August.

Membership & Financial Obligations

Scholarship Opportunities

To this end, WSC provides a limited number of partial tuition grants to qualified WSC members who demonstrate a financial need. The WSC Board of Directors will review completed applications for scholarship, and will determine awards on a case-by-case, first-come-first-served basis. Awards of scholarship may not exceed 5% of WSC’s total membership per swim season.
