Membership Information

 PLEASE NOTE:

The Town of Eastchester and Lake Isle regulations do not permit us to allow any child into the pool, including practices, without a completed registration on file.  This regulation will be enforced by asking children to get out of the pool until registration and payment is completed online.  A non-refundable family registration fee of $20 will be processed with your registration. Refunds can be processed for team registrations if your child has not attended practices and does not wish to participate but request for refund must be made before June 30.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Please go to the Membership tab for the current answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Here are the highlights:

1. REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THE TEAM

  • The ability to swim at least two strokes.
  • The family must have a  Lake Isle Country Club Family Membership for the pool . (There is an exception for Town residents over 16, in that case a Junior Membership is sufficient).  Contact us for more information.

 2. PRACTICE

  • Starts the first full week in June after school at 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm for new members.  New members should check the calendar for the date.  This group includes any Preteamers who wish to move up to the Team.  Returning members will start practice on the following week.  While attendance is important, we understand there are still many obligations during the month of June.  Our first meet is in the first week of July, so it is important that you attend as many practices as you can.
  • After school is out for the year, practice is in the morning.  Attendance is required daily.
  • We will be using the texting option from the website this summer to send messages about cancellations.  Be sure you have registered yor phone with all your emails and verified all!

 3. MEETS

  • There are five dual meets during the month of July.
  • This year there will be 3 at Lake Isle and 2 at other clubs.  (Directions to all clubs are available online at http://wcsc.usswim.net/ ).
  • Swimmers can compete in 4 strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.  A swimmer can only swim in 4 events at any meet; diving and relays count as events.
  • Competition is divided by boy/girl and age group: 6 & Under, 8 & Under, 10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under and 17 & Under.
  • There are also relays at every dual meet where teams of 4 swimmers compete in a freestyle race.
  • While we are a very competitive team, every child has an opportunity to participate at meets.
  • Please notify the Coach of any times you will miss a meet, in writing, either by note at practice or through email.

 4. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS

  • The culmination of our competitive season takes place during the “Counties” at Rye Playland Pool where we compete against all of Westchester County ’s Country Clubs and Pool teams.  There are 4 nights of competition encompassing all strokes, age groups (no 6 & Unders or 8 & Unders), IM’s (individual medley-a race of all 4 strokes) and relays both medley (4 swimmers-one for each stroke) and freestyle.
  • The second week of August finishes the competitive season with the “Conferences” where Lake Isle competes only against those teams in the Southern Conference of Westchester.  Specific age groups compete at trials on one of 3 days (6 & Unders included).  Finals for all age groups are held at the Westchester Country Club on the last day, Thursday. Diving competitions take place on the day before swimming competitions.  These competitions require a certain level of skill, so not all teammates participate, but all are invited to cheer on the team.

5. PRETEAM

  • We are very proud of our Preteam program where swimmers are instructed in competitive swimming techniques, preparing them for the Team.
  • To join our Preteam, a child must be between the ages of 5 and 8, able to swim the width of the pool twice with minimal assistance, have the ability to be on their backs in the water and put their face underwater while stroking.
  • Please see the website calendar for the Preteam Tryout dates.  There is a limit of approximately 50 swimmers, representing an 8:1 ratio of swimmers to coach.
  • Selection of Preteam swimmers is at the discretion of the Coaches.
  • All Preteam applicants must submit an application form and a check in advance of the scheduled tryout dates.   If your child does not make the team, your money will be refunded. Refunds for children who decide not to participate after practice begins will be made only before June 30.
  • At the end of the season we hold a Preteam Ribbon Meet, where our Preteam members proudly display their accomplishments of the season and are awarded medals.  The children celebrate with an Italian Ice Party afterwards.
  • Preteam members may be called on to swim in meets.  The coaches will let you know if your child is going to swim at a meet.

 6. CELEBRATIONS

  • We have two team celebrations during the season.
  • The Invitational in the middle of July, watch for details!
  • The Annual Awards Family Dinner (first weekend in August) takes place at the club for all team members and their families.  We celebrate our season, awarding participation trophies and special accomplishment trophies.  Our Publicity Team provides us with a slide show commemorating our season.

 7. VOLUNTEERS

  • We are a volunteer organization.  Although we receive monetary assistance from the Town of Eastchester and the use of the pool from Lake Isle , all aspects of the Team are run by volunteers, except for the coaching.
  • To run our swim meets we require the assistance of our family members.  We also need assistance for the many events we sponsor for the team. You may sign up online for volunteering.  Go to the Events page and at the event click on Job Signup.  Then just click on the job you wish to volunteer for. We will train you for any or all of the jobs you volunteer for and you will always have an experienced person to assist you. You are able to watch and enjoy your child’s swimming while timing, running, ribbon writing or scoring.
  • If you are not available for swim meets, you can volunteer for one of our Standing Committees. Descriptions of all volunteer needs are described on the website.
  • If you are not able to participate at all we do require an “opt-out” fee be paid.
  • We will have special training this year for scorers and diving.
  • Note: The volunteer rule applies to Team member parents and although we welcome your help, families with only Preteam membership do not have to volunteer (except for the Preteam meet) or pay the “opt-out” fee.
