March 11, 2013
Three TriJuniors members, and one alumnus, kicked off the national draft-legal 2013 season in Clermont, Florida on Saturday, at the Draft Legal Challenge, in the Elite Development Race, (EDR). The Elite Development Race is open to athletes 25 and under, who are not yet a licensed elite by USA Triathlon, and want to get experience at draft-legal racing. The first 3 athletes across the finish line qualify for their elite card automatically.
Tristan Bunch was the only male for the team competing, and had an outstanding performance, finishing 6th overall, and finishing as the top junior overall, in the sold out field of 75 athletes. The next highest placed junior was Eli Hemming in 10th, who was the top finisher for the US at the 2012 Junior World Championships.
In the women's race, Rachel Mann lead the TriJuniors women with her 15th place finish, in her first race since breaking her elbow last summer in a bike crash in San Diego. Rachel was followed closely behind by former TriJuniors athlete, Katarina LaJeunesse, who took 16th. Isabella Jolly-Gomez had a solid performance, finishing 29th in the field, a big improvement from her 2012 result.
The next races for the TriJuniors team in March include the SuperSeal Sprint and Olympic Tri, and the Fearless F1. The season is starting to pick up, and you can expect to see more TriJuniors athletes racing hard!
