CARLY AND LAYNE PRESENTLY AT THE 2014 CANADIAN SWIMMING TRIALS IN VICTORIA

2014 CANADIAN SWIMMING TRIALS/COMMONWEALTH GAMES TRIALS -

2ND - 5TH APRIL, VICTORIA, BC.

Layne Guidinger (14) and Carly Ede (16) have done what very few swimmers will do in their entire careers and that is qualify for Senior Nationals.  It is not common for swimmers this young to qualify for this competition as there are no age categories and every race is swam as open.  Senior Nationals for those of you that don't know is the highest level of swimming in Canada and the times to qualify are very difficult.  This meet is often used as a qualifying event for various games and championship meets around the world.  Some of the more exciting Senior Nationals are the Olympic, World Championship, Commonwealth, Pan Pacific, and Pan American Games Trials.  This particular competition is the Commonwealth Games Trials as well as a selection meet for Junior Olympics, Junior and Pan Pacific Championships.

This will be Carly Ede's second Senior Nationals event and Layne's first.  Both will be competing in just three events and those are 50, 100, 200 Backstroke.  I am not sure if this meet will be televised on CBC, however if you would like to follow along with the results it will be posted on Swim Canada's website as well as Meet Mobile.  We are going into this meet with the expectation that it will be a wonderful experience to prepare these girls for upcoming Nationals and the possibility in the future of qualifying for special event teams and championship meets.  Layne has just been notified this week that she has made a dual meet between the fastest swimmers in Western Canada versus the East that will be held in Winnipeg after Age Group Nationals this summer.

if you want to send Carly and Layne words of encouragement, go onto the our team's Facebook page and leave your comments for them.
