Final day success for Trojan Div 2 athletes

The final day was not to disappoint for our eager Div 2 athletes as they stormed to speeding tickets, IAG Div 1 times, PBs and a set of results that would make any coach proud. In the last outing for veteran Trojan coach Eoin Gray, the athletes looked as if they had something in mind for him to remember! And deliver they did!

Liam Heylin on top of an immaculate weekends racing added another Div 1 time to bring his tally to 4 with the 3:07 200brs. Battling the last 75 in a heat consisting of athletes up to 2 years older, he brought the pace to dip under the time by over 12 seconds. He furthered his winning streak with a place in the 100free, clocking a 1:09 into the heats, only to drop to a 1:07.7....less then 1 second outside the div 1 time in that event. Liam was unlucky to have finished 4th but nonetheless a great finish to a fantastic meet for him.

Grainne O Reilly showed form in her 200Brs, a late adjustment to her entry and one we are sure she is glad she changed from a 400free! With a 6 second PB, in a technically superb swim it looks like this athlete is showing early form for early qualification to division 1 (2014-15 season) in the first quarter of next year.

Ethan Ballard and Jamie Purcell gave fabtastic accounts of themselves to dip under PB in the 200brs along with the double trouble duo of emer and laura desmond. Aislinn pantony came in under PB in her 100free to drop to an impressive 1:11.

Lily O Neill, on her first 400free clocked a 6:15 and an impressive first attempt at pacing a middle distance swim.

The 4some of Cara Pantony, Aislinn Pantony, Grainne O Reilly and Lily O Neill stormed ther way to a 4x50FTR 2 years out of age. Splits for Cara (35.40), Lily (32.40), Grainne (31.60) and Aislinn (31.90) far exceeded expectations in a very gutsy team effort to finish 8th overall.

The competition has been a huge success for trojan SC with 90% of swims achieving PBs, 3 new athletes qualifying for Div 1 age groups, gold and silver medals, and an impressive 5 speeding tickets on the way to the best set of results in recent years. Athletes were rewarded with pizza last night and seem to have enjoyed their meet! Last event of the year sees a huge Trojan team compete in the Division 1 national championships, as the new lucky div 1 athletes combine with the Top squad on their way home from their tenerife training camp to hopefully deliver further fine performances. Very well done from all at Trojan SC to the brave Div 2 athletes who saw, went and conquered their goals for the long weekend!
