We are very proud of our FAST Senior Class of 2014. At FAST we take great pride in preparing our student-athletes for the next level, whatever it may be. As our graduating seniors prepare for the upcoming fall and their new transtion to college life, they have submitted some testimonials of what FAST has meant to them. We will update this link as we receive these.
Alex Lapoint - Fairport High School '14/Canisius College '18
Alex's range of swimming events makes him invaluble to any team, and he'll have an immediate impact in his freshman campaign at Canisius this fall. He was a 4x member of the Niagara LSC Zone team, competed at the NCSA Junior Nationals in Orlando this past spring, and was a recipient of the Niagara LSC Scholarship. He also served the Niagara LSC at its Athletes' Representative, attending the National Aquatic Sports Convention on several occassions. In addition he was a team captain for Fairport High School's Varsity team this year. See Alex's FAST Testimonial below -
There are many defining decisions in a person’s life, but I can easily say that joining the Fairport Area Swim Team was the most important decision I have ever made. FAST helped me become the person I am today and led me down paths that I could not have found with it. I would be lying if I said I didn't love every second of my journey through Fairport. The best part about FAST is that it is so much more than a team. In 40 years I may not remember my fastest time in the 100 yard Butterfly, but what I will remember is how hard I worked and all of the lessons that I learned from the coaches and from my peers. The level of support is incomparable and the friendships that are made on the Fairport Area Swim Team are meant to last forever. Everyone makes each other feel so welcome and in matter of minutes it is easy to see that there is something different about this team. When I first walked in the doors of the Fairport pool I had no idea that walking back out at the end of the day would be such a challenge because once you get there you don't want to leave. There is no measure of how much FAST has altered my life and opened my world up to so many possibilities that I could have never imagined. There will always be a special place in my heart for the coaches, the swimmers, and the parents of this amazing family.
Emma Shi - Penfield High School '14/Carnegie Mellon '18
Emma is a very versatile swimmer, and can typically be found competing in the 50 - 1,650 frees in the same championship meet! She has represented the Niagara LSC at the Zone meet on multiple occasions, is ranked top-10 in a wide range of strokes and events in the Niagara LSC, and also competed for FAST at the NCSA Junior Nationals in Orlando this past spring. She also was a recipient of the Niagara LSC Scholarship. In addition, she was a team captain for her high school team and an accomplished jazz musician at Penfield HS. Emma will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the fall. See Emma's FAST Testimonial below -
There are a number of aspects that makes FAST different from most swim teams, but perhaps one of the aspects that stood out the most to me was the option of two practice times. As one of the many busy student athletes on the team, I found it convenient that I was able to schedule other extra-curriculars around the practice schedule but also come to practice despite conflicts with one particular practice time. Another unique aspect about FAST is the ability to stay after the scheduled practice time to complete additional, specified work, such as a personalized set or your own drylands. I really appreciate the freedom of creating part of my workout and being able to balance both swimming and my busy schedule!-Emma Shi
Jeff Doser - Penfield High School '14/Geneseo University '18
Jeff will be attending Geneseo University in the fall where he will have an immediate impact to their freestyle corps, and their defense of the SUNYAC title. He plans to study pre-med. These past few years Jeff has made great strides as a swimmer, competing on two Niagara LSC Zone Teams, qualifying for the Speedo Sectionals in the 50, 100, 200, and 1000 frees, as well as competing for FAST at the NCSA Junior Nationals in Orlando this past spring in the 100 and 200 free. He was also a team captain for his high school team and like Emma, an accomplished Jazz musician at Penfield High School. See Jeff's FAST Testimonial below -
Joining FAST has been one of the greatest decisions of my life. The atmosphere at FAST is filled with the desire to succeed and the motivation to accomplish your goals, enabling everyone to reach their highest potential in and out of the pool. I owe a large part of my success as a swimmer and student to FAST and highly recommend it for everyone who wants to succeed not only in swimming, but also in school, in music, and in life.
Manuel Locken - Fairport High School (Exchange Student - Mexico)
Manuel was with us this year as an exchange student from Mexico. He was hosted by the Lapoint, Traver and Gala families throughout the year. It was a very tough transition for him at first, not so much the language barriers but the swimming training. Where he was from, Manuel shared with us that his Mexican team's daily practice routines would include approximately 1,000 yards or less per day. In addition, Manuel could not do a flip turn. Tough at first, Manuel continued to progress with us both in/out of the pool and quickly became a great teammate to us all. As the season went on Manuel came up with a goal to qualify for the Niagara LSC Championships in the 1,650, and accompish this feat he did. As the school year came to an end, it was very difficult to say goodbye to Manuel - our teammate, student, and friend. See Manuel's FAST Testimonial below -
Swimming for FAST has been a true adventure, full of hard work and dedication at the pool. The coaches know how to shape anyone to be an athlete, I lived this change myself and I´m very grateful to them. Fairport Area Swim Team is better described with four words: Quality swimming every day. I would not choose any other club if I was here next year.
Meghan Tyler - Spencerport HS '14/Canisius College '18
Meghan's Senior Year campaign was the best of her swimming career. Among her accomplishments - she qualfied for her first Niagara LSC Zone Team and Speedo Sectionals in the 100 fly. She also helped FAST to two 1,000-point+ team finishes at both Niagara LSC Championships - spring and summer, this past year competing in the 50 free, 100 and 200 fly, 200 and 400 IM as well as the 100 and 200 breast and relay events. Her versatility has prepared her to compete at the collegiate level this coming fall where she will be attending Canisius College. She may not recall, but when we first met Meghan, she shared with us that her #1 goal was to compete at an NCAA Division 1 college. She will get to do just that at Canisius! Swimming for FAST was one of the best decisions
I've made. I learned how important it is to stay motivated and to
not lose sight of what I want out of swimming. I wouldn't have been
able to achieve my goals or be prepared for college swimming
without my FAST training.
