Rookies Make Great Showing at SR II meet

Cabrillo SRII- Trials and Finals 3 Day meet

It was awesome seeing all of the new faces at last weekends’ Trials and Finals SRII meet at UC Santa Cruz.  Nick Sullivan, Claire Sullivan, Miranda Wilson, Kevy Vaden, Nina Cardinale, Amanda Cavazos, Maria Wilson, and Patrick Powers all participated in their first SRII Trials and Finals meet. Noah Gomes, Iain Anderson, Austin Hussain, Caleb Cripe, Henry Blaul, Jackson Klarsfeld, Cameron Ritchie, Gianluca Douros, Hannah Kim, Maddie Stander, and Lexie Valero veterans of the SR Trials and Finals format joined their teammates at UC Santa Cruz on a sunny and beautiful Presidents' Day weekend.

Many Dolphin swimmers qualified for finals+ including Nick, Claire, Miranda, Kevy, Nina, Amanda, Noah, Austin, Caleb, Henry, Jackson, Cameron, and Hannah.

It was amazing to see so many fast early season times, and exciting to see some best times as well.

Claire Sullivan set the Team Record in the 11-12 200 free and broke her own 500 free record in trials and again in finals.  Maddie Stander set new team records for 15-16 in the 50 free, 1000 free, and 1650 free (Miranda Wilson moved into 2nd rank for her first Trials and Finals meet in the 15-16 200 back), Henry Blaul set new team records in the 15-16 1000 free, 100 breast (three weeks after setting a Team Record in the 13-14 boys 100 breast), 200 breast, and 400 IM.

This was a very nice way for our Senior level swimmers and our Senior-to-be swimmers to start out the early season competition schedule. We like to put this meet on the schedule because it gives our swimmers an opportunity to swim the Trials and Finals venue that they will swim at their high school end-of-the-season Championship meets.  I predict good things are going to happen with Dolphin swimmers at the CCS High School Championships (maybe even a couple of State Meet qualifiers this year?) in May.
