Dolphins near top again at Y States

The Dolphins traveled to St. John, Indiana for the 2016 YMCA Short Course State Championships last weekend.  Over 1,110 swimmers from 44 teams participated in the event.  Three Dolphins made the podium for their individual efforts, while two relays earned podium finishes.

Tyler Frazier, 8, took home two State titles with his first place finish in the 25 yard butterfly and the 50 yard freestyle events.  Tyler also earned a 2nd place in the 25 yard freestyle, 4th in the 25 yard backstroke, and 15th in the 100 IM in boys 8 & under.

Hannah Marks had a pair of top-20 finishes in the 21 & Under Girls category.  Hannah's new personal best 1:08.24 earned 7th place in the 100 yard breaststroke, while she took home 19th place in the 50 yard freestyle.

Lauren Frazier, 13,  earned top-20 finishes in 5 of her 6 events in the 13-14 Girls group.  Lauren's 1:02.50 was good for 7th place in the 100 yard butterfly.  Lauren took 11th in the 100 yard freestyle, 12th in the 50 yard freestyle, 15th in the 200 yard freestyle, and 17th in the 100 yard backstroke.

Two relays finished on the podium (top 10).  The Girls 21 & under 200 yard Medley team finished 9th.  Members included Hannah Marks, Lauren Frazier, Kendall Marks, and Drew Tushaus.  The same team finished 10th in the Girls 21 & Under 400 yard Medley race.

Three other swimmers made the trip to Indiana with their indivual qualifying times.  Evan Ren qualified in 4 events, while Elizabeth Hammock and Aiden Gaither each qualified for the first time for State competition in one event.  Congratulations, swimmers!

The Dolphins earned 5th place overall among small teams at the meet.  The Dolphin Girls placed 4th, while the Boys earned 7th place.  Team scores were boosted by 3 additional relays (all had top 20 finishes).  Those teams included:  Boys 14U freestyle relay (Evan Ren, Travis Gorrell, Moses Calkins, and Kyle Frazier), Girls 14U freestyle relay (Drew Tushaus, Emilee Gorrell, Madison Gorrell, and Elizabeth Hammock), and Girls 21U 200 freestyle relay (Hannah Marks, Drew Tushaus, Emilee Gorrell, and Kendall Marks).

Congratulations to all of the swimmers that participated.  Our team numbers were down a little this year, but the team still had a strong showing overall!
