Nicolaas Dekker and Rapids Head Coach Rob Pettifer left for Singapore yesterday, traveling to the first of three tour sites for the FINA World Cup. The World Cup, a series of two-day short course meets, has been going on since the end of August. The series is divided into three-city “clusters,” with meets across Europe and Asia.
Pettifer and Dekker, along with other staff and athletes representing Canada, are at the third and final cluster. Starting later this afternoon (9:00 AM Singapore time), the team will start their first pre-competition training session, with the meet running October 21-22 local.
This trip comes on the heels of a week in Victoria for a technical and training camp with the Swimming Canada High Performance Center. Both Pettifer and Dekker spent most of the seven days with a full training schedule. It included water sessions and weight training, plus sessions with mental performance specialists and SNC biomechanists.
Once the meet in Singapore is over, they will travel to Tokyo, and then Hong Kong. Updates and videos can be found at fina.org. Keep in mind that Singapore is 15 hours ahead when trying to watch live streams.
