Maria Coburn (Round Rock, Texas) won her second medal
of the 2016 FINA World Junior Diving Championships with a silver
medal on 3-meter in girls group B (14-15) on Sunday, the final day
of competition in Kazan, Russia.
Coburn, who earlier in the week won gold on 1-meter, added a silver
medal after finishing with 398.35 points on 3-meter. Coburn was
fourth in the preliminaries but missed one dive. She moved up in
the standings with a consistent effort in the final, scoring
between 66 and 67.50 on three of her optional dives. China’s
Liang Yixian won gold with 408.60, and her teammate He Xiaojie was
just behind Coburn with 397 points for bronze. USA’s
Bridget O’Neil (Southlake, Texas) also competed
and finished 14
th with 337.55 points in the preliminaries.
Both U.S. divers competing in the boys group A (16-18) platform
event advanced to Sunday’s finals.
Zach Cooper(Greenwood, Ind.) finished ninth with 473.30
Andrew Capobianco (Holly Springs, N.C.) scored 465.60
Junjie Lian was first at 593.55, followed by
Russia’s Nikita Shleikher (573.80) and Great Britain’s
Matthew Dixon (545.60).
