Four of our senior swimmers help put us on the map this weekend with some stellar swims at the NJ Swimming Senior Championships at the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ. Their 28 splashes earned them 12 trips to finals, 13 Career Best Times, and 9 Speedo Sectional cuts.
Jake Leddy got the ball rolling with the tough 1000 Free on Thursday night. Despite an illness-induced break from his taper, he held a great pace for all 20 of his 50s dropping almost ten seconds off his seed time.
Andrea Carlson, qualifying in 4 different events, earned 5 Career Best Times and showed off her backstroke skills by making Finals in both the 100 and 200 Back.
Jake Riva made the most of his 6 qualifying events by making finals in 5 of them! Seven of his 10 swims were Sectional cuts and five were Career Best Times. He scored 12 Points for NJB in the process, and got some attention from his 10th Place finish in the 100 Back.
Samantha Russell also brought the magic. She made Finals in 5 of her 7 qualifying events, swimming two Career Best Times and two Sectional cuts. She earned 18 Points for the Barracudas and had our best finish with a 9th Place in the 100 Breast.
There are close to 80 Clubs in NJ Swimming, about 33 with qualifying swimmers attending this weekend. Of those, only 22 teams (some with dozens of swimmers apiece) put points up on the board. Through the efforts of our four Barracudas, our Girls placed 17th, our Boys 16th, and our Combined Place was 19th.
Not a bad “First Time Out”.
Congrats to our swimmers and coaches, and good luck to those competing at JOs and Sectionals!
