Team Rivi with 31 state qualifiers finishes 20th out of over 80 teams in the Indiana Age Group State Championships. Competition was held March 10-12 and there were some inspiring swims and finishes all of the board.
Our 13-14 boys consisting of Matthew Semler, Brooks Hillenbrand, Tyler Diercks and Keegan Priest put up some impressive times in three relays over the weekend finishing 21st in the state in two of the relays. Diercks competed in two individual races finishing with a time of 2:11.54 in the 200-yard backstroke and 1:00.23 in the 100-yard backstroke. Priest also swam individual events went 52.38 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, 2:09.43 in the 200-yard backstroke, and came back Sunday night to swim in the consolation finals heat of the 100-yard backstroke where he finished 13th in the state with a time of 57.92 seconds.
Both girls and boys in our 11-12 year old division showed up and helped put up some valuable points for Team Rivi. Keira Kask made consolation finals in the 50-yard butterfly and ended up 16th in the state with a time of 29.41 seconds. Carter Brames went some lifetime bests and just missed qualifying for finals in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.89. Brames also finished 17th in the the 200-yard individual medley Friday evening in a time of 2:23.17. The boys relay consisting of William Raches, Neiman Kumler, William Longfellow and Carter Brames went a 2:08.96 in the 200-yard medley relay and finished 12th overall, and then swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:49.61 finishing 9th overall.
Finally our 10 and under age group showed up and swam there hearts out with some very impressive swims and finishes. On Saturday our girls relay consisting of Meredith Hershberger, Abby Marshall, Emily Garten, and Tess Wojtalik had an impressive swim in the 200-yard medley relay where they dropped over four seconds and finished 9th. Then in nail bitting finish, Wojtalik, Hershberger, Leah Marshall, and Garten competed in the 200-yard free relay finishing 12th overall in a time of 2:08.63.
On our boys side Andrew O’Brien, Matthew Kask, Patton Shaar, and Riley Lettich finished 8th in a time of 2:23.81 in the 200-yard medley relay and an overall 4th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:03.56. Lettich, Shaar, and O’Brien had individual swim as well. Lettich and O’Brien swam 50-yard backstroke in 37.07 seconds and 37.20 seconds, respectively; along with the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Shaar had an amazing weekend with six top three finishes in his individual events. Shaar finished third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:27.79 as well as third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:00.53. He then went on to secure second in two events, the 100-yard and 50-yard butterfly in times of 1:08.33 and 31.07 seconds. Lastly he grabbed the title of state champion with two gold medals in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 30.58 seconds, and the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.79.

As our season wraps up and we look forward too the upcoming long course season, we would like to wish Jessica Halsmer, Gabriella Bunting, and Holle Guntz the best of luck as they compete this weekend in the Indiana Senior State Championship as Pike High School.
