Y Nationals - Day 1

There is a ton of energy in the air! This is a great meet with over 1400 swimmers traveling to Greensboro from across the country. Starting off the meet was the Athlete Welcome Party where Rowdy Gaines, Missy Franklin and YOTA’s own Hannah Aspden answered questions and talked about their Olympic experience. It was very cool to see Hannah representing Team USA and YOTA well in front of the crowd.

There were only two events tonight; the preliminary heats of the 200 Free Relay as well as timed finals of the 1000 Free. YOTA was represented in both the Men’s and Women’s 200 Free Relay and in the Women’s 1000 Free. Full results can be found at http://ymca.ymcaswimminganddiving.org/2017SC/results/ or YOTA’s results listed below:

Women’s 200 Free Relay

Brandon Dyck (20.68)
Final time of 1:24.36 - 5th seed going into finals tomorrow night.

Women’s 1000 Free
YOTA’s distance crew was led by veteran Lauren Soleo this evening. She got the individual events started off on the right foot with a nice season best time of 10:16.79. Next up was Megan Carson swimming a time of 10:30.11. She had an awesome first swim that was a bit off her lifetime and season best time. Finishing up the evening in the final heat was Nora Bergstrom. She swam two lifetime best times in one race; she swam the first 500 yards in 5:06.79 and finished the race with a final time of 10:20.44 dropping a little over seven seconds off her lifetime best.

Congrats to these ladies and gentlemen for getting the meet start off well!

GO YOTA!
