Martin County Swimming's Sara Lacusky Wins Two National Championship Titles

Sara Lacusky, a sophomore at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), competed in the NAIA National Swimming  & Diving Championship in March, winning two National Championship Titles in the 100 Yard Breast Stroke and the 200 Yard Breast Stroke. Sara was the  National Runner-up in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. She tied for the highest points of any female swimmer at the meet with 57 points (20 pts for 1st and 17 pts for 2nd).  She swam lifetime bests in her three individual events. 

She also competed in 4 of her team's 5 relays. SCAD's relays won 3 of the 5 relay events, Sara's relays placed first twice and second twice. 

Sara garnered 7 time NAIA All American recognition for her performances. 

Sara suffered a broken right ankle and ankle ligament tear in the pool deck at a Virginia Tech meet last January and had two surgeries in May last year to repair the injuries. She was out of the pool two months last summer and had a long recovery and rehabilitation process this fall including regular physical therapy. 

SCAD's ladies placed 2nd to Olivet Nazarene by 6.5 points. Olivet's ladies scored 57 points in the diving events. SCAD does not have divers on their roster. 

Sara is an Artist Athlete Sophomore transfer from Towson University studying Fashion Marketing.  Sara swam four years at MCHS graduating in 2015. She swam club year round locally for Coach Jim McCombs at Martin County Swimming since she was eight years old.

SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) is coached by Bill Pilczuk a former World Champion in the 50 M Freestyle and Kelsey Bobzien.
