Thunderbolts conquer Man-Sask

The Thunder Bay Thunderbolts had a very successful swim meet placing 7th overall - 4th for the girls team at the Man-Sask Long Course Provincial Meet held in Winnipeg from July 6-9. The Bolts raced to many personal bests, finals races and medals. Over 30 teams competed in this event. One of the many exciting races was the 100m final of the 100 free where the Bolts took 5 of the 8 coveted positions.

Racing finals and winning points for the boys 13 and under were Nikolas Black and Sam Chisolm. In the Boys 15 and over category Cameron Johnsen had an impressive medal count, bringing home Gold in the 200 Breast, Silver in the 100 Breast and 200 Freestyle events and a bronze in the 100 Freestyle.

In the Girls 12 and under category Jamie Puhalski raced to a Gold medal in the 50 Free and 100 Free events, a silver in the 50 Butterfly and a Bronze in the 200 Freestyle.

In the 13 and 14 age category for the girls Zoe Hunt had an exceptional meet winning Gold medals in the 200 Breast, 800 Freestyle, 100 Breast, Silver in the 400 Free and 200 IM and Bronze in the 200 Free. Teammate Hannah Johnsen also raced her hardest and came out winning Gold in the 200IM, Silver in the 200 and 100 Back events as well as the 400 IM. Isabel Harri won a Bronze in the 200 Breastroke event.

In the 15 and over category for the girls Emma Schlyter won Gold in the 200 Free, Bronze in the 400 Freestyle and 100 Free. Teammate Lindsay Puhalski won a bronze medal in the 400 IM. Emma Lockyer won a silver in the 200 IM, 400 Free, 200 Back and 400 IM. The girls 15 and over freestyle relay team placed second, competing on the team was Emma Schlyter, Aminah Fares, Madison Halvorsen and Lindsay Puhalski.

Also contributing to the point count for the Bolts were Alexa Grant, Will Lockyer, Abby Mulligan, and Emily Murphy.

The Bolts are back in the pool training for Canadian Jr Nationals taking place at the end of the month at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough.
