The Texas Terrapins were well represented at Long Course TAGS in Austin Texas this past weekend by Jackson Dement, and Triton Nugyen.
Both swimmers sped to best times and impressive swims.
Jackson Dement has been on a roll since the San Antonio Meet hitting 100% best times with some great swims. At TAGS, Jackson hit 9 best times and qualified for finals in 5 events, the 800 free, 400 free, 200 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly. He dropped 14 seconds in the 800 placing 8:58.5, 10th; 400 free improved 2 seconds - 4:19.2,placing 14, 100 fly imporved 1 sec -1:00.9, placing 11th, and in the 200 fly he grabbed 7th with a 2:14.7. In all events he improved in the prelims and then again in the finals. He also finaled in the 200 free, but with less than 1/2 hour he would have had another race, so he scratched the free for focus on the fly. This has been Jackson's best TAGS meet to date and he's been going since he was 10!
Triton Nugyen showed a bit of magic himself as he go to the meet as a 9 years old. He was nervous in the 50 fly - his first event, as his competition towered over him. He was just off his best time. Sunday he shook the nerves off in the 50 free, He did all the things coach Billy had instructed him to do and he sizzled to a 1/2 second drop and a tie for 17th - 32.1- the first alternate. This meant he got to swim off for that position. Triton had a great swim off getting out touched by a fingernail! He improved his time again - 31.9! Awesome swim and time!
These swimmers earned everything they got as they have been working extremely hard in practice, and doing all the right things to lead up to their success.
