Canadian Junior Swimming Champs Meet Report

I am writing you from Montreal where we are completing our final preparations for the Canadian Swimming Championships. Simultaneously, Erin Shewchuk and Pilar McCann are traveling to Calgary to complete their final preparations for the Canada Summer Games.

Last week at the Canadian Junior Championships OSC swimmers did very well, breaking multiple club records, winning medals and junior national titles, and finishing 11th overall (up from 25th last year) out of 120+ teams. We really held true to our plan going into the meet, which focused on taking advantage of each opportunity to progress at the meet and learning from our experiences, epitomized by our shirts that said: #upandon

Highlights from the meet include:

Alexandr Lapshin - achieving prelim best swims & implementing new skills in races

Kathryn Doyle - Helped the team final in the 4*200 Free relays

Pilar McCann - Club record in 100 BR amd 2 silver medals in the breaststroke events

Colin McCann - Bronze in 200 IM & swam consistently through the meet on all relays

Fred Kamminga - Club records in 100 BRx2, 200 IM, and 200 BR,  Silver in 200 BR and 400 IM and Gold in 200 IM and 100 BR.

Hayden Hebel - PB in 100 FR, and gained valuable experience competing in his first national level meet.
