BMA Brookies coaches and athletes Maggie Callow, Laina Hall, Alex Leonhardt, Amber Nabity, Brianne Flikkema and Cayla Flikkema hosted three Diversity Splash Camps in June and July, targeting underrepresented populations. Forty-seven kids received 230 hours of instruction from our coaches. Two thirds of the kids arrived to camp as “non-swimmers”.
BMA received an overwhelmingly positive response, having to turn families away because our resources were maxed out. All kids six and over learned to hold their breath, float on their backs, safely exit the pool and combine freestyle and backstroke arm and leg components into swim strokes. BMA is proud to welcome 8 Splash Camp graduates who have agreed to join our swim team!
BMA believes increasing our diversity will make us all stronger and greatly benefit our community, Montana Swimming, USA Swimming. The team wishes to thank The Charlotte Martin Foundation for their financial support, helping 47 kids to become safer in the water, making the Bozeman community a safer place!
