Heidi Kucera was honored to the UC Davis "Hall Of Fame" today!
Her story is really cool to understand. Heidi started swimming at a young age in several other programs, and was cranking out the yardage and driving all over the bay area for her workouts. Finding her way out of the sport all together, with bad form and shoulder issues at 13 years old. Her love of the water brought her to SOLO, because we offered a youth water polo program. When SOLO also had use of the Menlo-Atherton HS pool.
In getting going in the pool again. The work she did with Coach Tom on form and balanced training, brought her back to the national level in swimming. Resulting in All-American status for high school, including CCS Championship swims. Then came the challenge of finding the right program, that would allow her a chance to participate in both swimming and water polo. UC Davis was one of the only programs to give it a shot. A scholarship offer followed with a combination between swimming and water polo. Something not often done these days.
While at UC Davis Heidi broke 9 school records. Because of her background with SOLO. She was able to continue her growth in adding to her training. Leading to fun, fun, fun and even faster swimming. As a direct result of the staff understanding the upside to SOLO swimmers. Sarah Winters (Coach Andy's little sister), was then recruited on scholarship, and swam all four years.
Congratulations to Heidi Kucera! Thanks for the ride!
