What is swimming out?
Swimmers who train with a club or YMCA team can continue to
train with that team and still participate on the HS team, this is
allowed in OHSAA swimming, tennis and golf. Pickerington began to
allow this during the 2006-07 season.
Swimmers on those teams cannot compete in a club or YMCA meet during the HS season. This is defined as the date the first HS meet is contested for your school, in our case it is November 27th SO NO CLUB OR Y MEETS AFTER THIS DATE. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS CONTACT COACH JUSTIN * IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE HOLIDAY MEET AT MIAMI UNIVERSITY, CONTACT COACH JUSTIN ASAP.
There is NO requirement to attend a HS practice for these swimmers, unless a coach requests that you attend a particular practice. This is typically done near the sectional and district tournament to practice relay starts. HOWEVER, swimmers who swim out can attend any HS practice they want to and are welcome. If you do not know which training group to practice with please contact coach Justin for his advice.
All swimmers who train out with a club or YMCA MUST ATTEND EVERY PRACTICE SCHEDULED FOR THEIR TRAINING GROUP ON THAT TEAM, INCLUDING DRYLAND. You cannot choose to take a day off unless it is an excused absence by your club coach or the HS coach. This is a varsity sport and all athletes are expected to attend all scheduled practices at all times unless excused. For example the basketball team does not get to choose to take a day off when they feel like it they are expected there, swimming is not different. Part of the requirement to earn a Varsity letter is practice attendance.
Those swimming out must reply to this email with
1. The name of team they are training with
2. Their coaches name and contact info
3. The practice schedule for their training group. Or a link to this info
Here is the link to the swim out document to note your practice attendance, all swimming out athletes must complete this form every week. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16KAg9G9q62nTN2s0qT3JEUV8DkO9aPBjtvP7gYtvkCI/edit#gid=1535784502
