Thunderbolts on the Ferry to Victoria

Fifty Thunderbolts traveled to Victoria, Canada last weekend to race in the 2017 Bennett Cup.  To start out the racing on Friday, Regis Wang (16) went head to head in a swim off to qualify for the A final in the 16 over age group in the 100 fly.  The race was a nail biter, with Regis .03 behind at the 50, he dug deep and pulled out a thunderbolt finish out touching his opponent by .23!  Carrying on the excitement from both the AM relay wins (5/6), the Thunderbolts went on to win 4 out of the next 6 relays we competed in.

Individual champions on Friday night:

200 Back: Fay Lustria (13), Kevin Park (13), with team mate Kevin Lei (13) on his

heels for 2nd.  THSC has a tradition of honoring the 2nd place winner if it was

their teammate who beat them.  After all, those teammates helped each other

             get to that place!

100 Fly: Fay Lustria 12-13 age group, Kate Jablonski (16) and Natalie Kayfes (17)

going 1-2 respectively in the 16 over age group.

200 IM: Fay again stepping it up for the win, Jessica Maeda (14) winning her age

group with teammate Lizzy Cook (15) coming in 2nd.

The boys also had a 1-2 finish in the 14-15 age group with Angus Corbeau (14)

winning and Neeraj Javadekar (15) taking 2nd!

100 Free: only two champions in this event: Lizzy Cook and Noah Duyck (15)

200 Breast: Angus Corbeau (14) with teammate Brendon Fang (14) going 1-2 w

Saturday finals began with the 200 Medley relays. Thunderbolts dominated the 12-13 and 14-15 boys and girls age group winning all 4 relays.

Saturday Individual Champions: Fay Lustria with a hat trick in the 100 back, 200 free and 200 fly.  The Kevin's switched it up with Lei taking the win over Park in the 100 back.  Lizzy Cook with an outstanding swim in the 200 free.   Newbies to the champion list both came in the 100 breast... Misaki Kimijima (11) and Andrew Lee (13).

After rewriting the traditional swimming rules, Noah Duyck (15) had the fastest reaction time of the meet in his 50 free. While the officials weren't as appreciative of his ingenuity, his quickness off the blocks left a lasting impression on his teammates.

Annelise Goddard (15) dropped over a second from prelims to finals in the 50m freestyle which was just one of her many breakout swims of the meet. Anna Salove (12) scratched into finals after swimming her best time by 12 seconds in the 200 fly and shaved another 2.8 at night!

Sunday's' timed finals session was a continuation of the Thunderbolt's successful weekend with several great swims. Starting off the session were the 400 free relays where the thunderbolts won an exciting 5 out of the 6 relays contested.

Champions in the timed final individual events on Sunday were

50 Fly: Lizzy Cook, Tia Lindsay (16), Kevin Park and Noah Duyck

400 IM: Fay Lustria, Noah Duyck, Regis Wang
(with an honorable mention for Tia Lindsay's fantastic swim
               with a highly questionable disqualification)

50 Back: Fay Lustria, Tia Lindsay,

50 Breast: Misaki Kimijima, Jessica Maeda, Andrew Lee, Angus Corbeau
