This past weekend, the Senior groups of PSW competed at their first heats and finals meet of the season in Coquitlam at the Hyack Fall into Finals swim meet. This was the first big test of how the swimmers have been preparing and the swimmers across the board were incredibly successful over a long three-day weekend. Every single swimmer that attended the meet swam a best time, with some swimmers even going 100% best times! It was a very fun weekend that saw everyone swim a lot of hard races multiple times. Jaya Burns and Tristan Schanz were both 100% best times all weekend racing fast and hard all the way through. Tristan had an incredible 400 IM and 400 Free in the overflow heats that had him waiting around for hours to race, while Jaya moved up the rankings every time and took time off every single swim. Sergey Chernomonchenko broke two club records over the weekend, in the 200 IM and 400 IM, while also going best times in all of his events. Catherine Grimme, Jasmine Skuse, Chelsea Zhou and Cindy Shu all had great meets racking up lots of best times. Catherine in the 100 and 200 Backstroke put up times that put her in the top 10 in the country. Jasmine going best times 6 of her 8 races this weekend and swimming lots of finals. Chelsea and Cindy swam fast in every single race taking time off in the best events as well as their secondary events, making finals in them as well. Alex Chernomonchenko had a huge best time in the 400 Free as did Mark Liu who took off over 25 seconds in the event. Ethan Bhang had breakout swims in both of his 400’s as well as his 200 butterfly, with huge PB’s. Reece Landry also dropped his 400 IM time by almost 7 seconds almost cracking the 5:00 barrier for the first time. It was an amazing weekend that saw every swimmer really raise to the challenge of the competition and swim fast. A great first step for this season of racing.
