Riptide Families and Swimmers:
Our first meet of the Winter season is here, and after a great Fall season the coaching staff is excited to see what our swimmers can do this weekend!
Several Reminders for the weekend:
Location: East Grand Rapids Community Pool, 2211 Lake Drive SE, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506
Meet Format – This meet is sanctioned by Michigan Swimming, Inc. (MS), as a timed final meet on behalf of USA Swimming (USA-S). This meet is an ABC format using the Michigan Swimming ABC time standards. Swimmers are grouped by age and gender. Age groupings are 6&U (25 Back and 25 Free only), 8&U, 10&U, 11-12, and Open. Relays will be included in this meet.
Times – Always arrive to the meet to be on deck 20 minutes to the start of warm up and ready to start 15 min early for all warmup times. Swimmers arriving late without notice will likely be scratched from the meet. It is important to be on time and communicate any travel issues. Plan accordingly for weather and traffic.
Friday 12/1 (Distance): Warm up: 5 p.m. Events begin: 6 p.m.
Saturday 12/2 AM Session. (10&Under boys/girls 11-12 boys): Warm up: 8 a.m. Events begin: 9 a.m.
Saturday 12/2 PM Session (11&12 Girls Open Boys/Girls): Warm up: 1p.m. Events begin: 2 p.m.
Sunday 12/3 AM Session. (10&Under boys/girls 11-12 boys): Warm up: 8 a.m. Events begin: 9 a.m.
Sunday 12/3 PM Session (11&12 Girls Open Boys/Girls): Warm up: 1p.m. Events begin: 2 p.m.
Check in - Check in will be required. Check in will be available 30 minutes before warm-ups, and will close 15 minutes after the start of warm-up. Please be sure your swimmer checks in upon arrival to the pool. There will be a separate check-in for the Open 500 Free which will close at 10am on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Assigned Seating - There will be assigned seating for teams on the deck. When you arrive please have your swimmers team’s designated seating area. Areas will be marked with a sign that has your team name.
Controlled Warm-up - There will be a controlled procedure during the Saturday and Sunday sessions with assigned lanes for each team.
Deck Entries - Deck entries will be taken if time permits at the discretion of the Meet Referee and Meet Director. Deck entries will close when check-in closes. Please let coaches know if you are interested in deck entering at the meet so that we can help with getting kids into the meet.
Things to Bring - Racing Suit, Goggles (extra pair just in case), towel (two is suggested), and warm-up clothes for the deck. These may become wet, so be sure they are different than street clothes. Extra Water and snacks are recommended. Be mindful of those with food allergies, especially peanut.
Deck Personnel/Locker Rooms/Credentialing - Only registered and current coaches, athletes, officials and meet personnel are allowed on the deck or in locker rooms. Access to the pool deck may only be granted to any other individual in the event of emergency through approval by the Meet Director or the Meet Referee. Depending on the pace of the meet, the swimmers may not be able to visit with their parents, but often there is time for a quick visit.
Meet Programs/Admissions - Admissions: $5 per person. 10&U are free. Heat sheets will be available for $3.00.
Parking note for Saturday AM: EGR is holding the SAT on Saturday. Do not enter the school from the Lake Drive entrance in the morning on Saturday. Parking (Blue stars) is available in the lot next to the pool off of Bagley, in the parking structure (one block north of Bagley Lot) and at D&W (one block west of the pool). There is also a parking lot located on Lake Drive on the South end of the football field. If you park here, you will need to walk behind the football stadium and into the building. You will be on the diving well side of the pool if you enter here. Parking on the street is limited to 2 hours and is enforced. Pool entrance is noted with a yellow star.
Scoring – Team Scores will be kept. Trophies will be given to the top 5 teams. Scoring will be 1st-16th places in A/B/C. Relays will only score 1st-16th.
Awards – 12&U Events will receive awards by the following:
Medals 1-3 in A/B/C
Ribbons 4-8 in A/B/C
Relays 1-3 Medals; 4-8 ribbons
Special category for 6&Unders in the 25 Free and 25 Back. No awards for Open.
Power Point: the top 3 finishers in Hy-Tek Power Points for 10&Unders, 11-12 and 13-14 year olds will receive a trophy. 8 best individual events will be used to calculate the total score. Hy-Tek power points are points awarded to a swim based on time.
No Cell Phone Policy - Riptide does not allow Cell phones on deck at a meet. Your swimmers phones should be turned off and stored away in their bags until they leave the building. If you need to get ahold of them for emergency only, please call the coach contact for the meet.
Emergency Contacts for the Meet:
We will have multiple coaches as lead coach for a day this weekend and most sessions will have at least two coaches attending. Please communicate any issues or illness as soon as you are aware to give the coaches time to take care of adjustments at the meet and relays.
