December 4, 2017
Six SRVA swimmers competed at the 2017 Junior Olympic Championships this past weekend and we had a fantastic meet. We had multiple heat winners, finalists, and top 3 finishes. It was exciting to see the hard work of these athletes pay off with some wonderful races.
Brian Choi swam great, winning the 50 Butterfly and finishing second in the 100 Butterfly. Both swims were big time drops and close races. He made finals in all six of his races and finished in a higher place than his seed in all of his races.
Kyla Kelly made four finals over the weekend with a second place finish in the 200 IM. She placed fifth in the 100 and 200 Backstrokes with two strong, aggressive swims. Kyla showed a lot of heart and resiliency over the weekend.
Sarah Han swam in the 50, 100, and 200 Freestyle and had significant drops in all three races. Sarah has really been working on her technique this year which helped her to swim so strong.
Gabby Nguyen had three races on Sunday and had three lifetime best times. She was the first alternate for the 100 Butterfly, just missing out on a finals swims. She also qualified for Far Westerns in the 100 Butterfly.
Megan Nguyen and David Kang each only had one swim, but they made the most of their one swim. Megan had a perfectly paced 200 Freestyle with a nice time drop. David swam a very aggressive and tough 200 IM and had a huge time drop.
Jessica Wang swam in her first JOs and had a really nice 50 Freestyle.
Great swimming by everyone! They represened SRVA in the best way possible by competing well, and showing great sportsmanship to their competitiors.
