ROCS Races in Eastern Region

ROCS Races in Eastern Region

On the November 24-26 weekend, all of our competitive groups headed east seeking competition in Cornwall and Montréal. Both Academy Red and White as well as Competitive Development proudly represented ROCS at the Cornwall Sea Lions Snowflake Invitational while the Performance groups were dominant at the Club de Natation Montréal-Nord Invitational. In total, ROC Swimming had over 80 of our competitive swimmers out “ROC-ing” the blocks!

The coaches were very pleased with the results from both of these competitions which reflected the hard work that our swimmers have been putting into practices from the months of October and November. Coach Kristine was so proud of the team and their progress to date and wanted to remind the swimmers to “keep up the great work as we move into our next few months of training and competition.” Coach Jason was “thrilled with how well the swimmers raced and happy to see everyone smiling on the pool deck.”

Many swimmers participated in their first 200m I.M., 400m freestyle, 400m I.M., 800m freestyle or relay event - high fives and fist pumps to all of you! Coach Kelly felt the ROCS swimmers conquered the pool in Cornwall with some fast and amazing swims and she couldn’t believe how many relays we had put together noting that “I think we might have set a team record for the amount of relays in one event!”

In Montreal North, the Performance squad captured 3 out 4 relay titles, victories that came with a super absorbent towel as a prize for each member of the relay. The 13 and over boys narrowly secured first place by a 0.07 second margin, and the girls secured two come-from-behind victories in both the medley and free relays; all three contests were among the most exciting races of the weekend. "All members of the Performance Squad had great performances," said Coach Nico, "especially when you factor in that they were not rested and have trained very hard the two weeks leading in to this meet. To have so many swims that were within 1-2% of best times or even outright PB's was great to see."

Every group should be proud of the efforts in training that have brought them these results, and we look forward to even more fast swimming in December with two additional targets meets in the Montreal area.

Congratulations to our swimmers who achieved a Top Ten Improvement in a single swim that weekend:
