The efforts of so many parents, swimmers, coaches and volunteers all contributed to a great meet this past weekend. As one observer was heard to say, “The spirit of Christmas was evident at the Candy Cane meet ‘’.
We were a little nervous about our ability to host given the size of our club. As we approached the first day of the meet however it became evident that these doubts were not founded.
In addition to parents of swimmers there was strong support from Dartmouth Crusader Alumni families.
On the deck, alumni parent, York Friesen made a strong contribution while parents Beth Casey and Pat Rooney spent the entire the weekend officiating and contributing to the success of the meet.
The hospitality suite organized by Krista Chen provided great refreshments, encouragement and a point of contact for everyone. Krista and her team of Curly girls were amazed at the support shown by club members with the donation of food, money and time.
Alumni parents Peter and Sheila Landry (their son Owen now swims at Acadia) contributed time, energy and items for the hospitality suite. While Sheila contributed on deck, Peter continued a long-time tradition of connecting the Crusaders to the community by making sure left overs were distributed to the less fortunate in our community. Not one bit of food or drink is ever wasted.
Of course, hosting swim meets provides our athletes with the opportunity for competition, but it also is a great time to showcase our team to the wider swimmer community and contribute to the financial health of the club.
With so many supporting this meet it is hard to single everyone out for thanks, so a huge thanks to everyone.
Have a wonderful holiday.
