Harold & Marcia Smith (Giles Smith's Parents)

U.S. National Swim Team member Giles Smith and his parents, Harold and Marcia Smith, answer parent questions about raising an elite swimmer. Giles is a sprinter specializing in free style and butterfly who participated in the 2016 U.S. Olympic trials. In 2015 he won a Gold medal in the Pan American games for setting a new record in the 100 butterfly.

Hailing from Baltimore MD, Giles is a 5-time All-American, 14-time Maryland state record holder, and the first high school swimmer from Baltimore to break the 21 second barrier in the 50 yard freestyle. As a senior in high school, Giles was the national high school record holder in the 50 free.

Karl & Kim Whitley (Reece Whitley's Parents)

Ebony Rosemond of Black Kids Swim sat down with the Karl and Kim Whitley; parents of Reece Whitley, to share their experience with raising an elite swimmer. 

Reece broke the 13 -14 National Age Group record in the 200 breast stroke at the age of 13, was named Sports Illustrated for Kids Sportskid of the Year for 2015, and also competed in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Check out their interview below!
