34th SW OH High School Coaches Classic Meet Report

34th Southwest Ohio High School Coaches Classic Meet Report

Many of our SPYNATION High School Swimmers had the opportunity to compete in the largest high school meet in the United States!  We had SPY athletes competed at four different prelim sites: Dayton Raider Aquatic Center in Beavercreek, Washington Township Rec Center in Centerville, Miami University in Oxford, and Trotwood-Madison High School in Trotwood. So, there are Swimmers from over 100 schools racing it up this past weekend at the 34th Southwest Ohio Swimming & Diving Coaches Classic Meet. The weather on Saturday did prevent some swimmers from competing. Yet, SPY kids did their best who had the opportunity to race. It is a great prep meet for the upcoming High School Championships!

coolHow Big is this meet??  More than 2,900 swimmers and close to 150 divers from more than 100 schools in the Southwest High School District participated in this event. Because of its size, the “Classic” – touted as the largest invitational of its kind in the country – holds swimming preliminaries in different sites (Milford High School, Mason High School/Rec Center, Trotwood-Madison high school, Countryside YMCA, West Carrollton YMCA, Miami University (2 sites), Washington Township Recreation Center and the Dayton Raiders Aquatic Center) with finals at St. Xavier’s Keating Natatorium. Diving prelims are held at Miami, Mason, Milford and Trotwood-Madison with finals at the University of Cincinnati.

yesLots of Events Choices: Also unlike traditional high school meets, the Classic includes longer events, like the 400-yard individual medley and the 1,650-yard freestyle as well as shorter events like the 50-yard breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke.
