Intro Skills Clinic
This last Saturday, January 13th, NYAC’s Intro groups got a special visit from their own teammate, and Olympic Medalist, Michelle Toro. As part of the initiative between NYAC and Head to Head, Michelle took part of the Intro Skills Clinic working on the swimmer’s presence behind the blocks, their starts, and gave a small talk to her teammates afterwards.
Michelle thoroughly enjoyed her time with the swimmers and noted their eagerness and enthusiasm to learn new things.
After practice Michelle talked about the importance of being a part of NYAC. One of the highlights of the talk was when she made the swimmers take their NYAC caps off, and asked their names. After that she asked everyone put their caps back on. At that moment she explained: “people in the stands don’t know you or your name, they don’t know that you are Roni, Oscar, or Abby; but when you put your NYAC cap on they know something about you. They know you are a hard worker, fierce competitor, and you love swimming… So wearing a NYAC cap gives you a responsibility to always give your best, race hard, be good teammates, and have fun in the pool.”
After the session Michelle posed for pictures and signed autographs, the swimmers even got to wear her Olympic Medal! We would like to thank Michelle for visiting our Intro swimmers and sharing her passion for swimming and NYAC!
