From Swim BC:
"On Saturday January 13, 2018 Hyack Swim Club and Swim BC lost one of its’ members, 15-year-old Alfred Wong, who was struck by a stray bullet in a tragic and senseless shooting in Vancouver. Our sincere condolences are extended to Alfred's family, friends, teammates, and all those close to him.
By all accounts, Alfred was a bright young man who excelled at his studies. He was enrolled in many of the honours programs at Pinetree Secondary, exhibiting interest and passion in his courses, and had expressed the goal of becoming an electronics engineer.
In addition to his interest and participation in swimming with Hyack, he loved to travel and spend time with his family; he will be dearly missed by his parents and his older brother, and we wish them peace and serenity as they come to terms with the loss of their beloved son and sibling.
At the request of many friends and teammates, Hyack Swim Club has established a memorial scholarship in honour of Alfred.
