February Swim Meet Planning

SEVA Families,

I hope January and the start of 2018 has been a good one for your family. All of the mid-season swim meets came to a conclusion with the meet at ODU and WISC the weekend of January 20 - 21. Over all our swimmers did a great job at both of these competitions. The Short Course Championship Meets are quickly approaching. The following summary will give you information for the first two of many levels of Championship meets in February. At the end of this e-mail/posting, a list is provided for the March Championship meets. Details of these meets will be published in the March Swim Meet Planning information.

February 16 – 18: District Champs (12 & Unders) at Midtown (SEVA Hosted Meet):

Friday afternoon/evening, Saturday and Sunday (8 & Under Timed Finals, 9 to 12 year old preliminaries and finals).

  • Friday events include the 10 & Under 200 IM & 500 Free, 11 – 12 400 IM, 500 Free and 400 Free Relay (3:45 pm On Deck Time)

  • Saturday and Sunday:

    • 11 – 12 year olds will have preliminaries in the AM Session (7:15 am On Deck Time). The top 16 swimmers in all of the 50's, 100's, 200 Free and 200 IM and the top 8 swimmers in the 200 Fly, Back & Breast will return for finals in the evening session (4:45 pm on deck time)

    • 9 - 10 year olds will have preliminaries in the late morning/early afternoon session (11:15 am On Deck time). The top 8 swimmers in any event return for finals in the evening session (4:45 pm On Deck Time)

    • 8 & Under swimmers have Timed finals in the afternoon session (11:15 On Deck Time)

Swimmers can compete in any event and relay leg in which they do not have an Age Group Champ qualifying time. The 12 & Under District Champ meet IS A TEAM SCORED competition so we need every swimmer to participate to the maximum level possible and swim fast not only for their own improvement but also for the success of our team.

February 23 – 25: Region Champs (13 & Older) at Midtown: Full schedule of events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Preliminaries in the morning and the top 16 swimmers returning in the evening for Finals ALL THREE DAYS. On Friday morning, swimmers will be finished between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm depending on the events entered and can go to school if you choose. 13 – 14 year olds can compete in any event in which they do not have a Virginia Age Group Champ qualifying time. 15 & Older swimmers can compete in any event in which they do not have a Virginia Senior Champ qualifying time. In order to enter the 400 IM, 500 Free and 1000 Free, swimmers must have at least a “B” time.

For swimmers in the Senior Premier and Senior Elite groups, since Senior Champs is the weekend after this meet, if they are already qualified, please check with your swimmers coach to see if they will entered in the Region Champ meet.

Projected On Deck Time for Prelims in the Morning: 6:45 am (May change each day). The host team will send out final warm-up assignments a few days before the first day of the meet.

Projected On Deck Time for Finals in the Evening: 4:15 pm

The 13 & Older Region Championship Meet IS A TEAM SCORED meet so we need swimmers to participate to the maximum level possible and for what is appropriate for their development. They will be trying to swim fast not only for themselves but for the success of our team.
