Teaching Tuesday: GA Swimming and Safe Sport

Georgia Swimming is a huge advocate for creating a positive, healthy, encouraging, and supportive environment for all athlete and non-athlete members. Under USA Swimming, we do this through a program called Safe Sport. Safe Sport provides education, structure, and tools to help everyone work together and maintain the best environment possible for everyone involved. Safe Sport can be practiced everyday by creating an environment where everyone knows and understands the rules, and where every individual feels comfortable talking about them. It is also important to help prevent uncomfortable situations arising, and also being intentional with actions between all members.

Every club should appoint a Safe Sport Club Coordinator who will work with the LSC Safe Sport Coordinator, Ceci Christy, to disseminate information at the club level. Our LSC Safe Sport Coordinator also happens to be the Southern Zone Safe Sport Director. It is important to know that this role exists, to help every club create a strong and supportive environment for everyone, and to step in when needed.
