Groundhog Invite Recap
A huge thank you to our parents and workers for your time and effort over the weekend hosting another outstanding WTSC Groundhog Invitational. The swimmers certainly held up their end of the bargain, too, with an impressive performance top to bottom. An updated Honor Roll is posted on the website and at the pool but special shout outs to the following swimmers for their noteworthy accomplishments. Three swimmers added to their Age Group State entries with Katie Countryman (50 Breast) and Jack Steadham (100 Free) both making the second individual cuts of their respective careers. Emily Buening also added a pair of new AGST cuts in the 500 Free and 200 IM. Several WTSC swimmers increased their Divisional cut lists: Avery Aiello (50 Back), Duygu Arseven (100 Back; 50 Breast), Vivian Baker (50 Free), David Buening (200 IM), Finn Crist (50 Fly), Cadel Easterday (100 Free; 50 Fly), Kiernan Fahey (100 Free), Lizzie Maurer (200 Free), Sarah McPherson (50 Fly), Kate Peterson (200 Back; 200 Breast), Sho Shirayanagi (100 Breast; 50 Fly), Allison Smith (100 Free), Justin White (100 Breast) and Lily Wolfe (200 Free). And WTSC swimmers picked up more than their fair share of blue ribbons, with a variety of first-place finishes across many ages and disciplines: Avery Aiello (50 Free; 25 Back; 25 & 50 Fly), Lurilla Bereveskos (400 IM), Charlotte Buening (25 Free; 50 Breast; 100 & 200 IM), Emily Buening (50 & 500 Free; 100 Back; 50 & 100 Fly; 50 & 100 Breast; 200 IM), Katie Countryman (50, 100 & 200 Free; 50 & 100 Back; 50 Fly), Deborah Danek (200 Free; 50 Back), Ayden Fahey (100 Breast, 100 Fly), Brody Friend (50, 100, 200 Free; 400 IM), Toni Jazvic (400 IM), Sarah McPherson (50 & 100 Breast; 100 Fly) and Colin Parker (50, 100, 200 Free; 50 Back). Check out the Honor Roll for these highlights and more, and congratulations to all WTSC swimmers for their excellent showing at the Groundhog Invite!
WTSC wishes its Senior Group girls the best of luck tonight, as they begin competition in the IHSAA State Tournament with Sectional preliminaries at a variety of locations. Sectional finals will be Saturday with the State prelims and finals next weekend for those who advance. Good luck ladies, WTSC will be cheering you on!
The signup deadline for the last regular season meet of the winter, the Northside Invitational (February 16-18 @ NC & Hamilton Southeastern) has now passed. Northside Invite will be held in two locations, with Friday night events at NC and Saturday & Sunday events at Hamilton Southeastern. We will need some help on Friday night with the distance events at NC. Signups will be available closer to the meet but if your swimmers are participating on Friday night, please take a shift for one of the available jobs. FYI, the Friday night session is typically quick and easy. This meet is the last chance to make qualifying times for Divsionals and State prior to the Championship Season. If your swimmers have certain events that are important to them for this reason, now is the time to communicate with your coaches and make sure they get a chance to swim those events. Please contact your group coach if you have questions about this meet.
Meet pages have been built and are open for signups for the three major competitions of the Championship Season: Divisionals (March 2-4 @ Carmel HS), Senior State (March 9-11 @ Pike HS) and Age Group State (March 16-18 @ IUPUI). Qualifying times apply for these events, which are the culmination of a tremendous amount of hard work and sacrifice. Swimmers who are qualified for these meets are expected to participate and again, signups are now available for all three. Senior State and Age Group State will likely include relay only swimmers (swimmers participating on relays who do not have individual cuts for the meet). These decisions will be finalized ASAP and communicated to the affected swimmers so they can continue coming to practice. If you have questions about these events – and especially if you know of potential conflicts regarding attendance – please speak with your group coaches ASAP.
