The coaching staff is looking forward to a great swim meet this weekend at the Mardi Gras Mania in Minden. The swimmers have been doing a great job in practice, and we are excited to see their performances at the meet!
As a reminder, there will be NO practice on Friday, February 9 for all groups due to the meet.
Thank you to all those who are registered. As I mentioned in Monday’s email, we have 62 RENO swimmers attending the meet. Awesome!
Like most meets, the host team does ask for help from visiting teams to staff the timing chairs. Please click here to sign-up to time (click the “Job Signup” button on the top right of the webpage). Timing at meets goes towards the team’s parent service hour requirements.
Please see below for important meet information and the attached document for an estimated timeline:
Carson Valley Swim Center - 1600 Highway 88 - Minden, NV 89423
Friday Evening Session
Warm-up begins at 3:45 PM
Meet begins at 5:00 PM
Saturday and Sunday Morning Sessions (13 & Over Swimmers)
Warm-up begins at 7:45 AM
Meet begins at 9:00 AM
Saturday and Sunday Afternoon Sessions (12 & Under Swimmers)
According to the timeline, I would recommend arriving no later than 11:30 AM. Timelines are just an estimate, so plan to err on this side of arriving a little earlier than too late.
Please do your best to be sure your child is on time for warm-ups during the meet. The Minden pool only has 6 competition lanes, so warm-ups will be crowded. Because of this, it is very important RENO swimmers get in right when warm-ups start to maximize the time offered for warm-up.
Getting a proper warm-up serves a few purposes:
- Gets the body physically and mentally ready for competition
- Allows the swimmers to become familiar with the pool’s features (examples: the walls for turns and backstroke starts, backstroke flags, lighting in the pool area, blocks for starts, etc.). Each pool is unique so it is important for the swimmers to become as familiar as possible to the pool before their races – this can only happen during a proper warm-up.
If you have any questions, please ask a coach.
