DOUBLE LAST CHANCE SUB-JO MEET

Yellow DST t-shirts on Saturday, blue DST t-shirts on Sunday.

The Double Last Chance Sub-JO Meet is this weekend.  This meet is a prelims/finals format.  It is important to understand who will make finals for each event.  At a normal meet, the top 8 swim in finals.  That will be slightly modified for this meet; at the Double Last Chance meet, if a swimmer achieves a Junior Olympic qualifying time in an event in prelims, then the swimmer cannot swim that event in finals.  That allows for the top 8 swimmers who did not achieve Junior Olympic cuts in prelims to swim in finals and try for the Junior Olympic cuts again.  This is why the meet is called the "Double Last Chance" meet: swimmers get two chances, in theory, to get a Junior Olympic cut over the weekend.

At this meet, we will be making announcements when results come in for a particular event about who has gotten Junior Olympic cuts, who has made finals for that event, and who are the alternates for finals.  When we make an announcement for an event, there will be 30 minutes after the announcement is made to determine if the finalists will be back to swim in finals.  The default position is that they remain in finals; so, if you cannot attend finals for that event (which hopefully is not the case), you must scratch from finals, or declare your intent to scratch from finals if you need some extra time to figure things out, within that 30-minute time frame.  Penalties may be applied to swimmers who qualify for finals in an event, don't scratch from finals in that event, and then don't show up for finals for that event, because not scratching from that event implies that you will swim in that event, which means that someone else cannot be put into that event as a replacement finalist.  In other words, if you don't show up for finals when you didn't scratch from an event, you are taking a lane from someone who may have used that spot in finals.

Based on these announcements about finals, you can understand that it will be very important to keep track of the results via the announcements made over the microphone, and posted on the walls.  While the coaching staff will do the best it can to make sure that swimmers that make it into finals know that they are in, the coaching staff cannot keep track of every single announcement and all results for the meet, and watch the meet effectively as it is happening.  Therefore, it is the responsibility of the SWIMMERS AND PARENTS to know if your swimmer made it to finals in an event.

LAST CHANCE MINI MEET

Yellow DST t-shirts on Saturday, blue DST t-shirts on Sunday.

The Last Chance Mini Meet is this weekend.  This is a two-day meet, as opposed to a typical mini meet, which is usually just one day.  This meet will simulate the format of Mini Champs in March as much as possible, in order to prepare swimmers for the numerous events at Mini Champs.

Remember, the coaching staff made changes, mainly additions, to your swimmer's entries, with the intention of getting ready for Mini Champs next month.

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Volunteer positions are still available for the finals sessions of the Double Last Chance meet on both days.  These positions may be available on the day of the session.  Remember, volunteer positions for the finals sessions of the Double Last Chance meet are worth 7 points, as opposed to the usual 5 points, because of the greater need for volunteers.  If you are behind on volunteer service points, you can work them off more quickly at finals sessions.

If there are critical positions left empty in any of the sessions, the coaching staff may move you into a different volunteer position.  The coaching staff may also actively look for DST parents to volunteer if we are in need of more volunteers.  If your swimmer makes it into finals, you are expected to volunteer, in order to help us fill these empty finals positions.

Remember, if you are volunteering for any session, please make note of when your starting time for that position is.  It is important for volunteers to report to their positions on time, so that we have all positions staffed when they are needed.

If you would like to donate to the hospitality room for the meet, to supplement your volunteering, you may do so via this link.

Thanks,
