Ad Astra Area Aquatics Hosts Regional MAL Championships
13 teams featuring over 600 of the fastest athletes from Kansas and Missouri invade Lawrence for a 3-day swim meet
[Lawrence, KS] – Ad Astra Area Aquatics will host the Mid-America League Swimming Championships starting this Friday. The meet will feature swimmers from Kansas and Missouri.
The 10-Under, 11-12, 13-14 And 15-Over swimmers will race Saturday and Sunday. Friday night will showcase over 150 8-under swimmers. This is a unique session that happens just once a year.
“The 8-Under meet should be especially fun. Having that many young swimmers in one pool should be fun and a little crazy at the same time,” said Coach Patrick Norman.
Coach Norman knows how great this is for his swimmers and the city of Lawrence.
"Having 600 athletes and their families in town is great for the City of Lawrence. We live in an exciting town that people love to visit."
Ad Astra has earned a reputation for running great meets over the past eight years.
"We are excited to be hosting this meet for the first time as a combined site," said Coach Norman. "Historically, there have been two separate meet sites - but this year we are swimming together. This is sure to spark some extra excitement."
AAAA coach Patrick Norman is excited to see his swimmers race.
“Ad Astra has created history of high achievers in just eight years of existence as a program. This meet will be fun to watch before we buckle down for the final stretch of championship meets,” said Coach Norman.
The meet will start daily at 8:00am. The meet is free to the public.
