EDMONTON, ALBERTA – Over the holidays, the people of Finning Canada collected food and cash in support of local food banks across their Western Canada territory.
“Our people have always been involved in supporting the communities where we live and work and this food drive was just one more way to give back,” said Tony de Sousa, vice president, Saskatchewan, Finning Canada. “To support our people’s efforts, Finning matched the donation of the facility that collected the most per capita, dollar for dollar and pound per pound.”
The winning team was Saskatoon collecting a whopping 1,068 pounds of food (approximately 22.2 lb. per employee) for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre. The branch took top prize and a cheque for $1,068 for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.
“We’re excited to see Finning CAT engage our youth in giving back to their communities. We know that children play an important role in inspiring caring communities.” said Laurie O’Connor, Executive Director, Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre .
To help them take home top prize, Finning teamed up with the Goldfins Swimming Club and hosted a food drive to collect donations for the Food Bank at one of their practices. The 200 pounds of food collected helped put them over the top in the food drive competition.
In total, 15 facilities across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon took part in the food drive with a grand total of 4,264 pounds of food and $2,368.45 collected.
