11-14 State Championships SC 2018 - Meet Review

11-14 State Championships - Short Course 2018

Review by Coach Summir

The Dragons had a fast weekend of racing and quite a bit of dancing shenanigans. This group seemed to thoroughly enjoy being around their teammates and stepped up to the challenge of this fast meet with huge dragon pride!

Relays

Becca, Hannah B, Kenzie, and Phoebe were the first relay of 2 to break club records over the weekend. These girls raced their hearts out, lowered the record by 5.34 seconds, and scored 2 points for our club.

Adam, Aden, Hudson, and Preston have become quite the crew qualifying for all relays in their 11-12 age group this season at State and did some damage to their entry times! In the 400 medley, they sliced 17 seconds off their best times prior to the meet and became the 2nd fastest FGSC 11-12 boys relay in this event. They also went best times and made it onto the top times list in the 200 free relay (2nd) and 200 medley relay (3rd). The 400 free relay was an exciting race to watch as the boys broke a 12 year old club record by 0.76 of a second. 3 out of their 4 relays scored a total of 10 points for our club.

Individual Events

Phoebe qualified for more events than a swimmer is allowed to race at State and needed to pick the 6 she wanted to attack. She swam the 50 free (prelims and finals), 200 free (prelims, finals, time trials, and in the 800 free relay), 500 free (prelims and time trials), 1650 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly; nearly all best times. She stepped up to the blocks 11 times over 4 days for a total of 3,850 yards of racing and was the only swimmer to score points individually for our club with a total of 10 points.

Kenzie has freestyle fever! Last year she qualified for the 200 free relay and this year she qualified for individual events racing nearly all of the freestyle events while lowering all of her her previous best times: 50 (-0.2), 100 (-0.6), 500 (-16.5), and 1650 (-22.5) plus the 200 in the 800 free relay.

Aden qualified for his first State Championships in relays as well as individually in the 50 free, 100 free, and 50 backstroke. He swam a best time in the 50 free in prelims by 0.3 but wasn’t satisfied and swam a best time in time trials dropping 0.3 breaking 27 seconds! His relay leg of the backstroke was a 2 second drop from his previous best time.

Preston qualified for his first State Championships in relays as well as individually in the 50 free and 50 breaststroke. He dropped 0.4 in the 50 free, 2.2 in the 50 breaststroke, and was 7 seconds faster during his 100 fly relay split of the 400 medley relay.

Hudson qualified for his first State Championships in relays as well as individually and raced into best times in both events of the 50 breaststroke (-1.5) and 100 breaststroke (-1.9).

Victoria raced the 200 IM on Friday, 50 free in time trials on Saturday, 50 fly on Sunday and finished with the 100 IM during time trials that afternoon.  She cut time on all events and achieved A times in both time trials.

Adam qualified for his first State Championships in relays as well as individually in the 50 fly and dropped 0.8 of a second of his best time. From the lead off on the 400 free relay, he lowered his best time by 2 seconds.

Keira qualified for her second State Championships again in the 50 fly. She raced a best time by 0.8 of a second.
