Sophia Diagne, a 2017 Washington High School graduate and swimming alum of Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club, won four individual events and set a new national record at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Swimming and Diving Championships held in Ft. Pierce, FL March 7-10.
Diagne, 19, swept both the 50 and 100-yd butterfly events and the 100 and 200-yd individual medleys in her debut at the NJCAA national meet. The freshman for Indian River State College dropped the national record in the 100-yd IM on night three of the meet, winning the event in :56.26 seconds. She was also the lead-off swimmer for the victorious 200-yd freestyle relay and the 400-yd freestyle relay. She also contributed to the IRSC winning 200-yd medley relay by swimming the butterfly leg.
For her efforts at the NJCAA Championship meet, Sophia has been named a 7 time All-American. She also was names the Women’s NJCAA Women’s Swimmer of the Year!
Indian River State College women’s team went on to win their 36th consecutive junior college swimming title.
