ROCS Finishes February at Finale

ROCS Finishes February at Finale

There has been lots activity on the competition circuit for ROC Swimming over the last few weeks! To cap off the month of February, over 50 swimmers from all of our competitive groups traveled to Kingston to compete at Queen’s University in the Kingston Blue Marlins Heats & Finals Finale. This meet was the last official short-course competition in our calendar, so the coaches were looking for the swimmers to compete at their best and drop some serious seconds. Judging by our sticker boards by the end of the meet, the team accomplished just that! Over the two poster boards are over 1000 stickers, each representing a second taken off - that is over 16 minutes worth of time! Way to ROCS swimmers!!

This meet is particularly exciting for the 13 & over swimmers because the Blue Marlins host a 25m freestyle eliminator with cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place. Swimmers who participated in this event has to pass through two elimination rounds to compete for the prize money. Congratulations to Madison Simonini and Johnny Marrongelli who both came home to Ottawa with some cash money! Madison came 1st in the 13-14 age category winning a prize of 60 dollars and Johnny came 2nd in the 13-14 age category winning a prize of 40 dollars!

Two thumbs up to Annika Hollo and Marlowe Halloran who competed in their first 800m freestyle and Olivier Risk who competed in his first 1500m freestyle!

That same weekend, Coaches Camryn, Hanna, Claire with Coach Claudia attended the SWOTT Swim 2 The Beat at Brewer Pool with swimmers from our pre-competitive program. This was the first sanctioned competition for these swimmers that competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, and 100m freestyle or backstroke.

This meet gave our swimmers a chance to try out racing and to show off all of their skills, including their dives and flipturns.  The coaches were all impressed with how well our swimmers performed at their first meet.

Congratulations to Nikita Kurtyan, Samantha Walden, Daliane Cardinal, Sofia Francoli, Firdaus Al Nuaimi and Michael Flynn on competing at their first sanctioned event!

Stay tuned for more details from Swim Ontario Provincials and AA Championships!
