3/16-18 - Short Course Junior Olympics
Abigail Yoon, Bailey Cain, Paige Arnold, Kate Aubrecht, Simon Lins and Maddie Oesterer represented PST at this years 14&U Spring Junior Olympics. This competition featured over 900 swimmers from over 70 clubs in our region. Swimmers needed to achieve a qualifying time to participate. The meet went from Friday to Sunday with prelims starting at 9am and finals (top 10) at 4pm. We had a great meet. Bailey swam his 50 Freestyle on Friday morning and equaled his personal best, establishing his 50 Free as one of the fastest in the 12 year old age group. This was Abigail’s first JO meet and she did superbly well, improving in both the 50 and 100 Breaststroke and achieving one more FarWestern Time in the 100. Paige had an unbelievable JO meet, dropping time in everything, qualifying for Finals in the 50 and 100 Back as well as the 50 and 100 Breaststroke. Our distance swimmer Kate had a very hard program, swimming every single freestyle event within 3 days. She improved in all her events, however the 1 mile was by far the best, dropping almost 30 seconds of her personal best and coming 6th. Simon had an outstanding meet. Opting to focus on Freestyle and the 200 Back he dropped time in 6 out of his 7 events, made top 3 in 5 of them and established himself as one of the fastest swimmers in pacific swimming. Our eldest of the group, Maddie, had a great meet herself. Qualifying for finals in the 50, 500 and 200 Freestyle. Her 500 was outstanding, dropping over 5 seconds off her personal best and coming third. Supported by many of the swimmers friends and families we enjoyed ourselves during those 3 twelve hour days, despite the rain, wind and cold weather. Thank you to all that made it to Pleasanton and cheered for our swimmers!
