CSC Conquers Age Group State With Highest Point Total Ever

The Carmel Swim Club took the top spot in the Girls 10&U, Boys 10&U, Girls 11-12, Girls 13-14, and Boys 13-14 team standings at the Indiana Swimming Age Group Short Course Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium. 

The combined efforts of every swimmer earned CSC the 2018 Overall Team Championship award. CSC scored 2670 points, the highest point total ever at this meet, while FAST finished in second with 1444 points. Swac Swim Team placed third with 1146 points.

On the final day of competition, CSC was led by individual champions Berit Berglund (1st - 11-12 100 BK, 1st - 11-12 100 FR), Lexie Ward (1st - 10&U 100 FR), Carter Hadley (1st - 10&U 50 FL), and Carter Lancaster (1st - 11-12 100 BK). Berglund's time of 55.58 in the 100 BK established a new Indiana Association Record and Meet Record while her time of 53.18 in the 100 FR set a new CSC Record. Additionally, Hadley's time of 29.51 in the 50 FL established a new CSC Record, breaking the 41 year old mark of 29.65 set in 1977. 

Also making the podium with Top-8 efforts were Jamey Clark (6th - 50 FL), Lynsey Bowen (2nd - 100 BK, 6th - 100 FR), Savannah Irizarry (3rd - 100 BK), Kiarra Thomas (5th - 100 BK), Cory Han (6th - 100 BK), Molly Sweeney (3rd - 50 BR), Ethan Zhang (4th - 50 BR), Jack Keyser (7th - 50 BR), Ethan Johns (4th - 1650 FR, 8th - 100 FR), Kayden Lancaster (7th - 1650 FR, 8th - 100 BK), Devon Kitchel (3rd - 200 IM, 4th - 200 BR), Jordan Cooley (7th - 200 IM, 7th - 100 BK), Gretchen Lueking (2nd - 100 BK, 3rd - 100 FR), Colleen Duffy (4th - 100 BK, 8th - 100 FR), Makenna Sura (8th - 50 BR), Brandon Malicki (2nd - 50 BR), Maggie DeLillo (7th - 200 BR), Alyssa Street (6th - 50 FL), Parker Kurzawa (6th - 200 FL), and Ryan Malicki (4th - 200 FL).

In relay action, four CSC squads were crowned champions on the day. During the 10&U timed finals, the girls 200 Free "A" team of IrizarryBowenClark, and Ward distanced themselves from the field for the gold, while the "B" tandem of Sabrina LedwithKayla BarrSweeney, and Thomas claimed the silver to give CSC the 1-2 finish. Moments later, the boys 200 Free "B" group of Will LadineLuke FellerReilly Sweeney, and Zhang made the podium with a fourth place finish. Later in the evening, the girls 11-12 200 Free "A" group of Erin CumminsVivian WilsonEllie Overbeck, and Berglund dominated the field to touch first with a time of 1:40.64, establishing a new Indiana Association Record and Meet record while the "B" team of StreetSuraAriana Stieber, and Macie DeLillo would also make the podium in seventh place out of the morning preliminary session. Next in 13-14 action, the girls 400 Free "A" squad of KitchelLieskeDuffy, and Lueking would also dominate the field on their way to a first place finish. Not to be outdone, the boys "A" tandem of JohnsNicholas PlumbDavid Gabrick, and Nicholas Edwards earned a hard fought victory to close out the meet. The "B" team of MalickiRicki IwaseKJ Sweeney, and Lancaster would also make the podium with an eighth place finish out of the morning preliminary session.

The Carmel Swim Club will celebrate the conclusion of the short course season at the annual spring banquet on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the 502 East Event Centre in Carmel. Swimmers will return to long course action on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the CSC Spring Fling meet at the Carmel High School Natatorium.
