Recently Atomic City Aquatic Club (ACAC) swimmers completed their short course championship season, competing in two important swim meets.  The first was the 2018 Spring Short Course Championship (Senior Sectionals), and the second was the 2018 Sectional Age Group Championship (Age Groups).  ACAC made their presence felt with quality swimming at both meets.

8 swimmers traveled to Cary, NC for Senior Sectionals, where if you made certain time standards you swam against swimmers of all ages who also made difficult cuts.  This was the most difficult event on the ACAC schedule to qualify for.  The competition was very steep, but swimmers Tais Brown (14), Alison Craig (17), Sydney Goodman (17), Harper Houk (16), Abigail King (13), Austen Reid (17), Zack Telep (15), and Sarah Walker (16) swam well.  Harper Houk made finals in two events, placing 31st in the 100 Breast and 23rd in the 200 Breast, and the rest of the team showed great promise for the future.

7 swimmers competed at Age Groups in Atlanta the following week.  Mason Fischer (13) qualified for finals in three of her four events, taking 4th in the 200 Breast, 8th in the 200 IM, and 11th in the 100 Breast.  Tais Brown (14) made finals and took 2nd in the 200 Fly and 7th in the 100 Fly.  Aydan Skelton (10) took 15th in the 50 Fly to earn team points.  Logan Hall (11) earned points by taking 19th in the 400 IM.

Sam Campbell (10), Camden Gerchar (12), and Stephen Zhukov (11) joined their teammates with good swims and great team spirit.

“This season saw great progress on many fronts for our team,” stated Coach Andy Wagner.  “We had a good number of swimmers make Senior Sectionals and have a decision to make on which championship meets to pursue.  For other swimmers, a good foundation for future success was laid.  Overall, I could not be more pleased with the overall effort and results from our team.”

ACAC next will take a brief hiatus before starting to train again for the Long Course season.
