Prairie Open Meet Report

Twenty-one UCSC swimmers competed in Regina at the Prairie Open Championships the weekend of March 23-25. Despite the small size of the meet, the Dino swimmers elevated their performances and ended the meet with a total of 75 best times and a fifth place overall finish at the meet. With only 23 swimmers at the meet, the Dinos did a terrific job of showing their support for their fellow team mates both on and off the pool deck which was great to see! Similar to AB Champs, the coaches decided to do a "swim of the session", which allowed individuals and their performances a chance to be acknowledged by the team.

Friday AM - Jakub Juricek: even split his 100Free and went under 1 minute long course for the first time ever!

Friday PM - Greg Aksenchuk: only having a relay in the finals session but was still prepared, committed and ready to race it!

Saturday AM - Amy Leithead: went out after it - wanted to make it into a final, dropped 7 seconds in her 200Bk and made it in!

Saturday PM - Naomi Clements: has been training a new freestyle stroke and it paid off! First Western cut in 50Fr

Sunday AM - Ryenne Katterhagen and Molly Russell: both swam the 1500Free for the first time LC - were coming into it from two very different weekends, but both set goals for the race, followed through and acheived them!

Sunday PM - Meghan Abel: achieved her first AB Champs cut in 100Fly after missing it by tenths the last 5 times she raced the event.

New Qualifiers:

AB Champs: Meghan Abel

Westerns: Naomi Clements

Way to go Dinos!
