2018 SSST Summer Practice Times/ Group Info.

Hello Summer Swim Team Families,

Welcome back everyone! We are excited to announce our 2018 SUMMER Steamboat Springs Swim Team Program Schedule. Registration and pricing will be available on Friday April 13th. The Summer program is open to all returning swimmers and new SSST swimmer with a tryout. We are offering 5 programs for swimmers from ages 6-18. Please register your child in the same group that they were last in unless you have been notified by the coach to register your swimmer in another group. The summer session runs from May 7 to approximately July 29, give or take a day or two (12 weeks). Payment plans will be available for all groups at no additional charge. Please register early as there will be a limited number of spots available on the team.

TRYOUTS:Tryouts for any new SSST swimmers to the team will be April 17, 20 and 25.

Summer Programs

  1. LIGHTNING (Development Team)- One session from May 7- July 27 

This development level program will emphasis technique, fundamentals, and good practice habits. Swimmers should expect to swim between 300-800 yards per practice. This group is open to returning Lightning swimmers, swimmers who have moved up from the 2018 Spring Pre-Lightning session (swimmers in Pre-Lightning will know their placement by Tuesday April 17th), and new SSST swimmers ages 6 and up. New swimmers to the team please log onto www.steamboatswimteam.comfor a SUMMER TRYOUT sign up. Minimum requirements: 25 yds. freestyle, 25 yds. float/ kick on back and 50 yds. kick with a board.

Minimum meet attendance expectations- Both SSST Mini-meets (just for SSST swimmers)

Suggested but not required meets-  1stchoice- Craig and/or 2ndchoice- Aspen

•   Coaches: Andrew Floyd, Adrienne Rivera and Marley Loomis 

•   May 7- June 5 

           Practice times: 4:00-5:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday

•   June 6- July 27 

           Practice times: 8:30-9:30 a.m.; Wednesday and Friday

 

  1. BRONZE (Competitive Team)- One session from May 7- July 29

The Bronze program is designed for swimmers ages 8 and up. Coaches will notify parents of any swimmers from Lightning who may have moved up to Bronze. New swimmers are also welcome with a tryout. Swimmers must be able to swim 75 free without stopping or touching the bottom of the pool, 50 backstroke, and have a basic knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke. Emphasis will be on stroke technique, endurance, turns and starts. Swimmers should be expected to swim between 800-1200 yards per practice. 

  • Minimum meet attendance expectations- Craig and both SSST Mini-meets. 
  • Suggested Meets- Aspen (no qualifying times) and Western Slope Championships- if qualified.
  • Other meets available to swim at, if interested.

•   May 7- June 5 

            Practice Times: 5:15- 6:30 p.m.; Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

•   June 6- July 26 

            Practice Times: 8:00- 9:15 a.m.; Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

 

              3.   SILVER-RED (Competitive Team)- One session from May 8- July 29

The Silver-Red program is open to new and returning swimmers ages 9 and up. The Red program is combined with the Silver group and opened to adaptive swimmers ages 9 and up. All new swimmers to SSST must sign up for a tryout at www.steamboatswimteam.com. Swimmers in this level will be expected to train between 1200- 2500 yards per day. Emphasis will be on endurance, technique, starts, turns, intervals and reading the clock.

  • Minimum meet attendance expectations- Craig and both Mini-meets and choice 1 or 2- Denver Invite, Aspen, Craig and GJ Invite.
  • Swimmers are expected to attend WSL the State meet if qualified.

•   May 8- June 5 

             Practice times: 4:00- 5:15 p.m.; Monday, Thursday, Friday 

                                       4:00- 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday

•   June 6- July 29

             Practice times: 9:00- 10:45 a.m.; Monday and Wednesday

                                        9:00- 10:15 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday

 

               4.  GOLD (Competitive Team)-One session from May 7- July 29

This program is open to all returning and new (with a tryout) Gold swimmers age 11 and up, and will primarily focus on refining technique, building endurance, and training & race strategy…and of course we will have lots of fun too!  All State level and higher swimmers should plan to attend all practices and dryland. All other swimmers are encouraged to attend a minimum of 4 to 5 practices per week. Swimmers may to be invited to select afternoon practices on Tuesday and Thursday in the summer. Swimmers are expected to have all required equipment on hand in their bags and in working order at all times.

  • Minimum meet attendance- Craig and both Mini-meets and choice of 1-3 meets selected from Denver Invite, Aspen, GJ Invite 
  • Swimmers are expected to attend WSL and State meet if qualified.

  1. SENIOR (Competitive Team)-One session from May 7- July 29

This program is open to all returning Senior swimmers age 12 and up who have chosen to make swimming their priority. Swimmers at this level are expected to strive to attend all practices, put in a strong effort at practices and meets and lead the team. Swimmers will work on training and race strategy, fine tuning strokes and turns, building endurance…and of course we will have lots of fun too!  Tuesday and Thursday afternoon practices after school is out will be structured around the swimmers in this group. Swimmer’s should plan to attend all practices and dryland. Swimmers are expected to have all required equipment on hand in their bags and in working order at all times.

  • Minimum meet attendance- Craig and both Mini-meets and choice of 2-3 meets selected from Denver Invite, Aspen, GJ Invite 
  • Swimmers are expected to attend WSL and State meet if qualified
