Fantastic Swims at YMCA Nationals

While many of us were enjoying the break from Swim and school last week, seven of our Hurricanes (the most in the history of the team) competed at the YMCA Short Course Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

For the first time ever, the East Hampton Hurricanes were on the scoreboard with ten points, thanks toMaggie Purcell qualifying for the B finals in two events and finishing 16th in the 200 breast and 9th in the 100 breast!  In both events, Maggie swam her best times and set new team records with a 1:03.18 in the 100 breast and 2:18.15 in the 200 breast.  She also swam the 50 free (23.92) and the 100 free (52.35)

Fantastic finish to your Hurricane swimming years, Maggie!

We will certainly miss you and wish you the best at the University of Richmond.

Jane Brierley and Ethan McCormac also set new records for a total of FIVE new team records. Ethan's time of 53.09 in the 100 fly is a new team record and Jane Brierley's times in the 100 breast (1:07.06) and 200 breast (2:25.52) are new records in the 13-14 age group

Jane also swam a best time in the 50 free (26.44) and Ethan swam a best time in the 200 free (1:44.62) and was close to his personal bests in the 50 free(21.93) and the 100 free (48.62).

Nice swimming, Ethan and Jane!

Caroline Oakland also competed in her last meet as a Hurricane and swam a best time in the 50 free (25.08) and also swam very close to best times in the 100 free (53.89) and the 200 free (1:56.78).

Caroline has been a great role model for the younger kids and a big help at meets.  We will miss her quiet perserverance and dedication and wish her the best at school and in the pool.

Sophia Swanson swam a best time in the 100 IM (1:03.80) and swam the 200 free (1:57.69). Julia Brierley swam a best time in the 100 back (1:02.66) and also swam the 100 breast (1:11.80), 200 breast (2:35.42) and the 50 free (25.96).  Oona Fousler swam the 50 free (25.93) and was in the 200 free relay with Sophia, Caroline, and MaggieCaroline, Jane, Sophia and Maggie swam in the 200 Medley Relay.

Nice job,  Hurricanes!
