Elmbrook Swim Club – Newsletter – April 12, 2018 – Week 4

Elmbrook Swim Club Mission Statement:

Empower community members to achieve excellence in life through swimming.

A Note From Head Coach Brent Boock

Saturday is Pizza Day!  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone pitch in!  This is one of the few days of the year the entire team comes together…It’s like our Elmbrook Swim Club Holiday!

On behalf of the staff I would like to thank everyone for your time and effort in selling and making pizzas for our largest fundraiser of the year. We could not keep dues low and provide the programming we do without the effort the membership puts into PIZZAS!

I’m sure the day will be a huge success thanks to Pizza Fundraiser Committee Heads Patrick Linnihan & Debbie Seymour, as well as pizza committee members Rachel Schmidt, Meenu Singh, Priya Barde, Masoumeh Kamrani, Aravind Mokhasi, Michelle Denis, Paul Neumeier, Richard Berens, Ziehyun Huh, Amanda Linstead, Ami Prag, Samantha Madur.

Pizza Day Fundraiser - THIS Saturday, April 14

Pizza Day is almost here!  Thank you to everyone for following through with pizza/buy out orders, shift sign up, and sub requests.  Now it’s time to get to work!

Final details -

Your pizzas will be available for pick up at the end of your shift.  For those working set up on Friday night, your pizzas will be ready for pick up at the end of the first shift Saturday morning.

It is very important that everyone who signed up for a shift arrives at the designated time.  The day will NOT run smoothly if members miss their shift or arrive late.

To double check your shift sign up, please take a look at either of the following reports:

Pizza day sign up by shift - HERE

Pizza day sign up by last name - HERE

Are you interested in becoming an official?  Elmbrook needs stroke and turn officials.

Are you tired of sitting in the bleachers at meets, watching the clock and passing the hours, uncomfortably, to see a couple of minutes of racing?  Do you wish you could do something else to make the time pass quicker or be more productive during that wait?  Volunteering at a swim meet is the best way to accomplish that.  And what better way than being up close to the action and helping out as a Meet Official!

EBSC is seeking out individuals who are interested in becoming Stroke and Turn officials during the current Long Course season.  This is open to anyone - moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends - as long as you are 18 years old and willing to help.

You have questions?

I don't know all the stroke or USA Swimming Rules, so I can't be an official.

We got you covered.  Training and mentoring from experienced officials are provided for you.

It takes too long to become an official and I don't have any extra time.

The testing is done online at your convenience.  And your training and mentoring can be done during meets that your child is already entered in (you're there anyway, right?)  You only have to apprentice at 4 sessions to become certified.

Are there any costs or fees to become an official?

The cost of the officials clinic and your non-athlete registration fees are reimbursed to you by EBSC.  Your first uniform shirt, name tag, and background check are reimbursed by Wisconsin Swimming.  USA Swimming provides a rule book at no charge.

How often do I have to volunteer at a meet?

You would be required to officiate a minimum of 4 sessions each year.  You can officiate at any LSC level meet your child is swimming in. Also, you will be fulfilling your family volunteer requirement for EBSC if you officiate at the four EBSC hosted meets.

When is the next training session?

We are currently working on getting a club sponsored clinic set up and/or having one hosted locally.  We will need at least 3-4 people to host a clinic.  Date is to be determined.

If you are interested in becoming an official or have more questions, please contact Amy Balducci at baloon013@yahoo.com.  Additional information about becoming an official can also be found on the Wisconsin Swimming website.

Learn and Swim with 2016 Olympian Kelsi Worrell on Saturday, April 21

Clinic will be held at Waukesha South HS (12 & under - 9:30am-1pm SOLD OUT, 13 & Over 12-3:30pm)

Registration end tomorrow, April 13th.

Swimmers will have the chance to learn drill and skills with Kelsi, get her autograph, hear her story and ask questions.  Kelsi plans to be in the water with the athletes.

Clinic cost is $25/swimmer
