Dino's set the tone on day one of Western Canadian Championships

It was a great first day for the Dino’s at the Western Canadian Championship in Victoria, BC! As one of the UCSC swimmers put it – “We kicked butt and raced fast!” There was a ton of team spirit amongst the 38 Dinos in attendance and the cheering was loud which has really set a great tone for the rest of the weekend!

The “Move of the Day” goes to Ali Al-Shareef for dropping over 4 seconds in his 200Free to move up 20 places in the rankings earning him a spot in the ‘A’ final. WOW. The lesson here being – if you have a lane, you have a chance! Ali also achieved his first CJC cut today! Overall, a terrific day for one of our Dinos!

Our relays also had a strong showing with our 15-17 Girls (L.Albers, H.Bennett, E.Ling, K.Rendall) breaking the 4x100Free Alberta Provincial record and placing first with a time of 3:52.18! Our ‘B’ relay placed second and our ‘C’ relay placed fourth with the 13/14 girls on there (S.Wang, K.Song, K.Scott, T.McKenzie) also breaking the AB Provincial record in a time of 3:59.32! On the boy’s side, we ended up in sixth and ninth with the UCSC men ending their day off with some great personal best swims.

Way to go Dinos!
